Congratulations to Evidence Forensic Specialist DeAnna Ryan, the 2025 Wheeling Police Department Civilian of the Year! DeAnna joined WPD in March 2023 and was recently chosen by the command staff as this year’s civilian award recipient.

Congratulations to Patrolman First Class Blake Paxton, the 2025 Wheeling Police Department Officer of the Year! Pfc. Paxton, a member of the Charlie Patrol shift, was selected by WPD command staff for this annual honor.

And … the big name reveal! Say hello to... K9 Geist! Geist is German for “ghost". The name Geist was chosen since he was born in Germany, and Police K9s are also historically trained with many German commands! Geist and his handler head off to K9 training next week!

Blake Graham and Hunter Nixon were sworn in yesterday in city hall as new officers at WPD. Both will soon be part of the next West Virginia State Police academy class. Welcome aboard!

Crisis Intervention Training (CIT) wrapped up today at the Wheeling Police Dept, concluding with two days of hands-on crisis de-escalation scenarios. 18 participants received certificates after completing the week-long course. Congrats to everyone who completed the training!

Crisis Intervention Training (CIT) continued today at WPD Headquarters. Today and yesterday the class heard from experts in the legal field, had a in-depth conversation on autism and started discussing crisis de-escalation. The class continues through Friday.

WPD will host a monthly Downtown/Centre Market Crime Watch Mtg for businesses in the Downtown & Centre Market areas. The 1st meeting will take place at 5:30 p.m., Feb. 4. Future meetings will be held on the first Wednesday of each month at 5:30 p.m. at Police HQ, 2115 Chapline St
