We mark National Police Week each year with the Wheeling Police Department Law Enforcement Memorial to remember those who made the ultimate sacrifice. We thank everyone who attended this solemn annual gathering.

VENUE CHANGE: Due to forecasted storms on Wednesday, May 13, the annual WPD Law Enforcement Memorial has been moved to the WV Northern Community College Education Center gymnasium. Attendees can enter at the 17th Street entrance or the Chapline Street side.

We had the pleasure of hosting the 2026 Wheeling Area Chamber Leadership Wheeling class today. The class was able to experience our simulation room, talk to commanders, and tour the facility.

National Crime Victims’ Rights Week highlights victims & survivors, their rights, and available resources. The 2026 theme—“Listen. Act. Advocate. Protect victims, serve communities.”—calls for compassion, action, and ongoing support.

Around 6 p.m. today, WPD responded to a man who was stabbed in the 2300 block of Market St. The man was taken to Wheeling Hospital to receive treatment for a non-life threatening injury. Detectives are on scene & have ID’d a possible suspect. There is no public safety threat.

4 p.m. UPDATE: Crash site has been cleared, road open to one lane in each direction for utility pole replacement.

⚠️TRAFFIC ALERT: A single-vehicle crash has closed National Road in the area of Greenwood Cemetery. Police and fire crews were called to the scene just minutes before 1 p.m. Wednesday. Two people in the car were transported to Wheeling Hospital by the fire Department for injuries
