Maryland has rarely resembled its preseason No. 1 spot. Losses at Syracuse and Princeton could be rationalized, but what unfolded Saturday in an 11–8 loss to No. 2 Notre Dame is harder to dismiss, even with extenuating circumstances. Via @WheelsRI: 247sports.com/college/maryla…

Why is Maryland men's lacrosse struggling after entering the season ranked No. 1? Plus, midfielders Zach Whittier and Aiden Aitken join the podcast to talk about their recruitment to Maryland, unsung teammates, and their favorite off-field memories. New 'Be the Best' episode 👇

@NolanRogalski Correct me if I’m wrong, though, but I think gait receipts are pooled and shared across schools. So really it’s like Maryland is holding the conference back!

"Maryland collected just over $5 million from football tickets, the program’s lowest total since the 2012 season when it was still an ACC member. Maryland could multiply its football gate revenue 13 times and remain behind Michigan and OSU." AD Jim Smith has a mountain to climb.
Scott Dochterman@ScottDochterman

Inside the Big Ten’s financial documents in its first year as an 18-team league. Ohio State’s revenue soared after CFP title. (Michigan, too) Major concerns at Maryland, UCLA, Rutgers. Growing disparity in FB ticket revenue. 1 non-FB/MBB made money. nytimes.com/athletic/70710…

@College_Crosse Had to look this up. Last time Tills started 1-2? 2016. First game of the season was postponed. Then they lost a road game (Yale) followed by a home loss (Notre Dame). Reeled off 16 straight wins. We must protect the children and not talk about Memorial Day in 2016, though.

@WheelsRI lot of reasons, common thread is that opponents are dictating the game to them and not the other way around. that's where the adjustments have to come in

Some Maryland fans were ready to give him the hook last week, which felt a little quick. But I do not think Brian Ruppel should feel very comfortable in his seat right now

@College_Crosse Basically removing Schaller from the defense also has affected the whole group. Kabiri didn’t even try to dodge him. Just moved him away and basically played 5v5. More space. Maryland letting guys walk down Stadium Dr without getting a body.

@WheelsRI As you have said many times, the way teams play offense against them is not a mystery. Princeton waited ages to go and was more than comfortable taking their chances on Ruppel. It worked. The defense either has to start taking on a more aggressive posture, or maybe it's a switch

@Jeff_Ermann Dig them. After football debuted those last year at Oregon, I immediately bought a sweatshirt in that style.

@Jeff_Ermann Personally, I think Knute Rockne should come back and coach Notre Dame.

Gary Williams is 80. A young 80, but 80. We've officially crossed the rubicon on the 'Gary comes back to save Maryland' storyline. He's still courtside regularly though.

@Fantasy_Schnerd @Jeff_Ermann Buzzsawless is already despised for his endless babbling, sheer goofiness, stunning arrogance, annoying drawl, faux sincerity, Downton Abbey clothing, computer illiteracy & 100 other unfixable things that all mean he must leave immediately. Gary as Interim and Skinn for 2026-27.

@TheBigRedHog As a fan of a B1G team who could never even sniff the CFB playoffs, you'd never catch me dead wearing that shirt.

@ricksterps @Jeff_Ermann The Red/White (Crossland) side of the flag was flown by Confederate soldiers from Maryland. Of course, both the Calverts and Crosslands had slaves. What's interesting is that Marylanders of all races/ethnicities love the flag. Don't know why Moore brought this up again.

@jonas_shaffer @PostSports Seems like the final move to turn a print/online newspaper into a cable news channel-style "entertainment" format.

This is so depressing and wrongheaded. I grew up devouring @PostSports. It taught me so much about what good journalism looks like and why sports matter in the DMV. My heart goes out the Post’s incredible team (and alums) and the readers now deprived of bare-minimum coverage.
Max Tani@maxwelltani

Murray says the Post will be closing the sports department “in its current form.” The paper plans to retain several reporters to join features and cover sports as a “cultural and societal phenomenon,” and will have a few employees on its print sports section.
