And BTW, ask any person under 30 who knows mental health - med mixups, breaks, etc look exactly like this.

@cleary_mitch Wouldn’t you actually want to know? Just from a player/employee work safety perspective. Just show the vision to a few people under 30 and ask them what they think was going on.

Did any “journalist” have the guts to ask the bleeding obvious: Did you breath test him after the game? Did you drug test him? If not, why not? Follow up question: Why did you rush him out of the MCG before independent doctors and drug testers could assess him?

@jasonfinn_ @7AFL People just aren’t educated. I said as soon as I saw it this was a mental episode. Mental illnesses coupled with lack of sleep, medication, a breakdown etc look the same as drugs. It’s common.

@OnlyCarlton_ Why are we babying him so much? Yes, Carlton failed by letting him onto the field, but he’s a grown man who chose to show up and play when he was clearly on substances. (The club saying it was just mental health issues are talking out of their ass)

Reports of Elijah being inconsolable and feeling like he let the team down are heartbreaking, you didn’t let us down, the club let you down. Everyone involved with the decision to play him in the first place and then letting him play out the game should be ashamed of themselves

People are very quick to jump to conclusions about Elijah Hollands, particularly given his history, but it’s worth remembering he has also been open about living with panic disorder. Panic disorder is a serious mental illness. It’s not just general anxiety or stress, it can present physically in really confronting ways. The jitteriness, brain fog, and that “not quite there” feeling are all very real symptoms. I’ve experienced it myself at a severe level and know how debilitating it can be. It nearly killed me. It’s not something people should be casually speculating about or dismissing.

I’m sorry, but are we fucking for real right now as a society. The amount of absolute trash I’ve seen since last night about Elijah, the lack of empathy, and care for his mental health after the week that has been particularly in the AFL world is alarming, and heartbreaking.

We saw post after post about how we need a mental health round, yet when a player is clearly going through something they’ve become the butt of the joke and open season for hate.

@RalphyHeraldSun The story is about Carlton’s lack of leadership. He was let down by them. Coaches, captain, and the doctors especially. Mental health is so misunderstood, and the circulating videos/posts by fellow journalists are reckless.

There is room in all of this to ask the legitimate questions of why he was out there so long & whether the Blues were aware of his state while also having compassion for someone who has publicly & bravely come forward with his mental health issues & how they have manifested. He had a panic attack last year against Sydney albeit with some different symptoms 👇
