The Prendercast II: Secret of the Blues
A quarter which should put the final nail in Voss’s tenure. No ideas, no adjustments, no system. We don’t have a single good learned habit from his time in charge. Not organisation, not work rate, not fight. #AFLBluesSaints

@tmorrison888 I’ve been just as disappointed in the players/captain as I have the club.

Still waiting for someone,ANYONE from club, particularly looking at senior players to break away from club line show some public support for a teammate (yeah yeah legal will be all over it,actually don’t care about that right now) Even if the horse has bolted,we NEED SOMETHING

To be quite honest, my sympathy for Elijah Hollands' mental health struggles does not really change whether substances were involved or not

@Jonty_snow @LongMacVampyr You have literal rocks in your head. Do you think a 23 yo showing up to play AFL high or drunk is mentally healthy? Get a fucking clue. Imagine being this naive.

@LongMacVampyr That's an absurd stance. Mental health is a serious issue, but if any average person turned up to work high or intoxicated, there'd be grounds for immediate termination.

I love people talking about the Elijah Hollands thing being like “he isn’t having mental health struggles, he was drunk or on drugs!” Ok well is that something a person feeling normal and okay does? Dipshits

@Peter_A_Kat @cleary_mitch Why is a grown man so fucking interested? Whether it was or not, would you agree it’s a mental health issue? A 23 yo old playing high would be someone of sound mind to you? And BTW, ask any person under 30 who knows mental health - med mixups, breaks, etc look exactly like this.

@cleary_mitch Wouldn’t you actually want to know? Just from a player/employee work safety perspective. Just show the vision to a few people under 30 and ask them what they think was going on.

Did any “journalist” have the guts to ask the bleeding obvious: Did you breath test him after the game? Did you drug test him? If not, why not? Follow up question: Why did you rush him out of the MCG before independent doctors and drug testers could assess him?
Mitch Cleary@cleary_mitch

Biggest admission from Graham Wright press conference is that the club knew Elijah Hollands was struggling in-game. Question now turns to why he played 9mins of Q4… at a minimum. Something Wright couldn’t answer and something he says the ensuing investigation will uncover.

@jasonfinn_ @7AFL People just aren’t educated. I said as soon as I saw it this was a mental episode. Mental illnesses coupled with lack of sleep, medication, a breakdown etc look the same as drugs. It’s common.

@ClarkyHeraldSun “But this is not the player’s shame. It is the club’s.” 100%. The medical team should be fired, and the coaches and captain should all be held accountable. The fact others players didn’t feel comfortable speaking up, tells you everything you need to know about this team.

@leocolt66 @OnlyCarlton_ You have no idea what you’re talking about. Count yourself lucky that you don’t. Mental health episodes look EXACTLY like this and I’ve said it from the beginning. People like you are just extremely uneducated on the subject.

@OnlyCarlton_ Why are we babying him so much? Yes, Carlton failed by letting him onto the field, but he’s a grown man who chose to show up and play when he was clearly on substances. (The club saying it was just mental health issues are talking out of their ass)

Reports of Elijah being inconsolable and feeling like he let the team down are heartbreaking, you didn’t let us down, the club let you down. Everyone involved with the decision to play him in the first place and then letting him play out the game should be ashamed of themselves

Elijah Hollands was the victim of a mental health episode and not under the influence of drugs during his erratic performance against Collingwood last night. Carlton has undertaken a thorough review of Hollands’ circumstances, but after investigating are convinced his issues are not substance-related. More here... bit.ly/4sFe7v0

People are very quick to jump to conclusions about Elijah Hollands, particularly given his history, but it’s worth remembering he has also been open about living with panic disorder. Panic disorder is a serious mental illness. It’s not just general anxiety or stress, it can present physically in really confronting ways. The jitteriness, brain fog, and that “not quite there” feeling are all very real symptoms. I’ve experienced it myself at a severe level and know how debilitating it can be. It nearly killed me. It’s not something people should be casually speculating about or dismissing.

What’s it going to take for people to take the way they speak seriously? I certainly hope he had a bunch of supportive people around him last night, I sure had a restless night thinking about him 💔

I’m sorry, but are we fucking for real right now as a society. The amount of absolute trash I’ve seen since last night about Elijah, the lack of empathy, and care for his mental health after the week that has been particularly in the AFL world is alarming, and heartbreaking.

We saw post after post about how we need a mental health round, yet when a player is clearly going through something they’ve become the butt of the joke and open season for hate.

@RalphyHeraldSun The story is about Carlton’s lack of leadership. He was let down by them. Coaches, captain, and the doctors especially. Mental health is so misunderstood, and the circulating videos/posts by fellow journalists are reckless.

There is room in all of this to ask the legitimate questions of why he was out there so long & whether the Blues were aware of his state while also having compassion for someone who has publicly & bravely come forward with his mental health issues & how they have manifested. He had a panic attack last year against Sydney albeit with some different symptoms 👇

Carlton coach Michael Voss says Elijah Hollands was left “shattered” by his performance against the Pies, with the midfielder seeming disoriented in the Blues’ loss. READ 👉 bit.ly/4891Esa
