@DCHard21 @TheRealHoz35 Good question. Probably started trending 8-9 years ago. Really became prevalent 5-6 years ago. Big reason pitch clock came about. 3 result outcome game is no fun

Question for all my new age baseball students out there …… How in 2025 did Nico Hoerner finish 2nd in batting average but 23rd in OBP in the national league? If not drawing walks is your answer please provide his whiff% and provide his contact percentage on swings he made in 2025 and where it ranks amongst NL hitters. @StevenCheah I hate what you’ve done to me but it’s never been more clear the students need their teacher

@DCHard21 @TheRealHoz35 Danny, guys “auto take” all the time. It used to be for when a guy was wild, leading off, or you feel overmatched. Now it’s happening too frequent in leverage situations because guys are more interested in walking than anything else. This is where the root of my issue lies

@WhitMerrifield @TheRealHoz35 As you know, hitting hard. I dont think most guys are purposely taking cookies. Most, not all. They also shouldn't be swinging at borderline strikes because the success rate on those are very low.

@DCHard21 @TheRealHoz35 My argument here is when a hitter gets a strike to hit, how often are they making above average contact? I want guys looking to drive runners in with people on base. Not taking a plus count cookie because they’re looking to walk because it’s better for their OBP

@WhitMerrifield @TheRealHoz35 The objective is to score runs. Simply swinging and hitting the ball isn't the best way to measure which players are the best at succeeding. Different types of contact, obviously. As you can see below, K% doesn't correlate at all to producing runs.

@DCHard21 @TheRealHoz35 Also, just as a fun counterpoint to this argument, nobody has ever strived to not hit it on the barrel or to make an out when hitting the ball before swinging.
