Heartbreaking to see what is happening to the residents of the former Sonas Retirement Village in Enniscrone. LIMERICK HOSPITAL KEPT MORROCAN RAPIST DOCTOR EMPLOYED FOR A WHOLE YEAR AFTER RAPE CLAIM By Susanne Delaney Despite the risk (and no disclosure to patients), University Hospital Limerick Hospital kept a rapist doctor in his role for 12 months after the then alleged sexual attack came to light (he then consented to suspension). The nurse he raped said the HSE offered her a transfer to a different location “and I felt I had no option other than to take this as Louay (rapist) was still working as a doctor in UHL”. She stated in court that she was no longer able to work in the hospital as she was constantly looking over her shoulder. She continued “I also feared for the patients of UHL. I knew that I had gotten out of the hospital, but what about those who were left behind?” “My job is to care for patients, and I felt like a failure because I knew this man was delivering care to vulnerable people and I knew what he was capable of doing to people in vulnerable positions.” Louay Kila, (31), who worked as a registrar doctor at the University Hospital Limerick (UHL) at the time, was convicted at the Central Criminal Court, Limerick, Thursday, of the rape and sexual assault of the victim on March 2, 2024. His legal council put forward a pity story: “This has had catastrophic consequences for his career. He has been in a form of purgatory, frozen in time, a non-national with no family here, and prison will be difficult for him. He has suffered psychologically and is receiving medication." Unfortunately judges in Irish courts are showing they tend to listen to these pleas for mercy, sometimes reducing sentences because "prison would be harder" as a foreign national (two tier system where foreign rapists are not held to account for their predatory choices). The nurse, in this case, said she wished to retain her anonymity but requested her rapist be named. The court heard Kila and the nurse worked at UHL and were on a night out with several others. Later, Kila tried to force the victim to kiss him by holding her jaw open. She told him to leave her alone. A photograph of Kila kissing the victim on her cheek while she was asleep on a couch was shared on Snapchat. Later on, the victim said she was “in shock” when she awoke to find Kila raping her and he also digitally penetrated the victim with a number of his fingers, and continued doing so after she told him to “stop”.  He was not arrested until 20 days after. Kila sent the nurse a text message while she was attending a sexual assault treatment unit, a day after the rape, telling her “I didn’t mean to upset you” and that her “well being” was “important” to him. Two months after the rape he claimed he and the victim had engaged in consensual kissing and digital penetration. Today, the nurse told the court that the rape and assault impacted “my health, my livelihood, my family life, my potential relationships, and my sense of self. She was diagnosed with PTSD and put on antidepressants. "I live in a state of constant anxiety and fear, and I often get flashbacks and nightmares of what happened to me.” The rapist doctor is due to be sentenced later this month. N He will probably receive a lesser sentence for a clean work record as a doctor [WHO KNOWS FOR SURE HIS PREVIOUS HISTORY OR QUALIFICATIONS?] and because he has no prior convictions. Due to the "difficulty being imprisoned as a foreign national",  it can be reasonably assumed (as already mentioned) that this may also result in a lesser sentence. As for UH "working together, caring for you" (working with rapists?), they clearly failed in their duty toward the victim and their patients. But this is hardly surprising. Of all sexual cases dealt with by the Irish Medical Council, only around 50% are disclosed to the public/patients.
