@tipsy_jana I feel like a bracket reset is less confusing for new viewer than a 1-0 map advantage. They might think they missed map 1. But regardless, both are better than what we have now

The debates are back on why Winner's Bracket gets no real advantage in Grand Finals. The discrepancy is especially jarring this time around... In this last Pro-Am some teams could lose THREE series before elimination, yet OpTic lost just ONE in Grand Finals and were done.
Here's a breakdown of the pros and cons for each format, based on perspectives from both the CDL and the community:
Two BO5s (Bracket reset)
✅ Winners get the biggest possible competitive advantage
🚫 No real test of the teams' map pool
🚫 GF could end after only 3 maps
🚫 Too long for production if all 10 maps are played
🚫 Confusing format for new viewers
🚫 "Hype" gets lost in bracket reset
BO7 (Current format)
✅ Decent test of map pool
✅ Manageable length for production
✅ Easy to understand format for viewers
✅ No reset, audience "hype" preserved
🚫 Winners only get a veto advantage
BO9 (Winners start 1-0)
✅ Best test of map pool
✅ Meaningful advantage to winners
✅ Manageable length for production (8 maps max, only 1 more than current)
✅ Format is easy enough to understand
✅ No reset, audience stays locked in
Maybe @dtsay56 can offer some insight on why we haven't yet switched to a Best of 9? 🤔

@LawrenceMetten W! BO7 has definitely taken strides with qol improvements which is awesome. Just to be a little greedy, has there ever been a consideration for different ways to play ranked? Like maybe separate SnD and respawns. Or even something like 2v2 ranked?

We’ve completely overhauled BO7 Ranked Play’s Skill Rating System for Season 04. No more hidden MMR or variables beyond your direct control — how your Rank and performance stack up against others in the match is now the only thing that impacts your SR

Starting with Season 04, the Ranked Play SR system becomes even clearer. No more hidden MMR, no more unexplained SR. Every point you earn or lose will be laid out in a new Post-Match Summary with all the details. More to come as we get closer to S04 launch!

@CaesarSZN It’ll be mid May and there will be teams who have only played 1 match on LAN

Hopefully it’s becoming obvious to @CODLeague that CoD is best in front of a live audience. That’s the heart of this game as an esport. Think big. Increase to 8 Majors plus Champs. That means more games and a longer season. There’s no reason we need to end the season in June.

Random CDL stat of the day:
@LAThieves have had some insane bad luck with the veto coin toss this season for their online matches

@CaesarSZN KOI lose Insight’s ticket to Birmingham and sub in Nastie
English

@Tsuyurgi @SpawnUpgg Most scrims are only respawns so 5 hardpoints + 3 overloads = 8 maps

@dtsay56 Having two lives in a double elimination bracket is too big of an advantage???
English

Good conversation on Finals format - this is essentially showing the impact of the bracket reset. While we all agree the Winner’s Bracket team deserves an advantage, our position has been that having two lives in the Finals is too big of an edge and this data seems to reinforce that. WB teams winning 80% of the time entering the Finals can dampen the excitement: 1) The outcome seems predetermined and 2) during the match it's not as intense since it's not do-or-die for the WB team during a large portion of the match.
Now should there be a bigger advantage for WB? Potentially (e.g., 1 map win). But we don’t think a bracket reset is the answer. Winning 4x as much (vs the 2nd best team no less) seems imbalanced and I’d argue that the now 60/40 split between winner of WB and LB is much healthier

It is almost TWICE as Likely to Win From Loser’s Bracket in the CDL Era 🤯 Does the CDL need a format change? 🤔
