@joefigs2 @Health_Affairs @DrMonicaPeek @UChicago I’m an RN and thank you for conducting this study. I have an issue with methodology though bc I do use those terms regularly in all pt notes- some of them do not indicate bias (namely “refuse” meds isn’t negative it’s factual).

New @Health_Affairs study shows Black patients had *2.5 times* higher odds of negative descriptors (eg "non-adherent,” "agitated”) in EHRs even after SES/risk adjustment. Concerning for racial bias/racist thinking by docs/RNs Led by M.Sun @DrMonicaPeek E.Tung, T.Oliwa @UChicago

I’m curating a Lab Genetics class for @UW_GCGP and looking for #GCchat collaborators in NGS testing and the Biochemical testing spaces to develop and teach the course. Flipped classroom, case-based. Starts in March 2022. 💲 to match level of involvement. DM me to learn more!

I know for a fact that GC programs are doing this and it really doesn't make much sense... I agree the onus is on a program to foster an environment of diversity and inclusion and needs to prove to students they can do so. Thoughts? #GCChat
Lisa Chalik@lisachalik

Wait, so PhD programs are asking *student applicants* to submit diversity statements now? Shouldn't the program be telling students about its own commitment to diversity, not the other way around?? What is an undergraduate student even supposed to say in this?

@bizbiz93 multicultural settings…living in racially mixed communities, fluency in a second language….they are all criteria that are more likely to be met by candidates of color…[and] because such criteria are not explicitly race-based, they also should withstand #GCchat (3/)

@bizbiz93 organization a more-inclusive environment is a goal, then perhaps that goal should be reflected in our criteria, so that whoever is selected can support the organization’s goals….these new criteria might be: the extent and favorability of one’s experience working in #GCchat (2/)

@bizbiz93 Yes, absolutely. #GCchat And - federal and sometimes state laws have substantially weakened college and university affirmative action programs. As Beverly Tatum outlines in her book, “Why are all the Black kids sitting together in the cafeteria?” “…if making our (1/)
