This is a real pattern we see across UK small businesses. Nothing extreme. Nothing reckless. Just quietly expensive mistakes.

@FBW_Campaign @FBW_Campaign Britain's waterways are genuinely undervalued infrastructure. They support tourism, freight potential, flood management and biodiversity. Proper funding isn't heritage spending, it's investment in assets that serve multiple purposes at once.

@ftenergy @ftenergy Unpaid energy bills aren't just a consumer problem, they ripple through suppliers, networks and eventually into pricing for everyone. The fix needs to sit somewhere between better payment plans and smarter metering, not just debt collection.

@Caterertweets @Caterertweets Interesting to see Caprinos founders backing a new chicken concept. The rapid rollout model works when you've already built the operational playbook once. Key question is whether the supply chain can scale as fast as the ambition.

@Campaignmag Vollebak opening a physical space in London is a confident move for a brand built online. Retail that feels more like an exhibition than a shop tends to earn attention and loyalty in equal measure. The product has to match the storytelling though.

@britishchambers Protecting UK steel is important, but manufacturers relying on imported specialist grades have few alternatives. July feels tight for supply chain changes at that scale, and downstream businesses will feel the cost pressure quickly.

@FarmingUK Prices dropping while cattle back up on farms is a processing bottleneck problem, not just market cycles. Until factory capacity and scheduling improve, farmers are stuck absorbing the cost. More direct routes to market would help reduce that dependency.

@EnergyVoiceNews Dogger Bank South approval is welcome news, but the delays threatening the 2030 timeline show how much grid connection and planning need to keep pace with ambition. Without that, the targets stay aspirational.

@GreenAcres_Farm Plastic contamination in green waste is a real problem for composting facilities, so seeing coir pots and cardboard labels at a National Trust site is a practical step. More garden centres should follow this lead.

Fantastic to see so many plants at NatTrust Attingham in coir plantpots with cardboard labels from The Hairy Plant Pot Company - with plant labels one of the worst contaminants of green waste compost, all plants should be sold like this

@Campaignmag @TBWAMCR Trade brands investing in proper creative rather than just price-led advertising tend to build stronger loyalty. Tradespeople have plenty of choice on where to shop, so the ones that stand for something beyond discounts usually win long term.

@Caterertweets @AbsoluteTaste Securing a multi-year contract at Escapade Silverstone is a strong move for Absolute Taste. Hospitality businesses that lock in longer-term partnerships rather than chasing one-off events tend to build much more stable revenue.

@Caterertweets @Caterertweets Interesting to see Caprinos founders branching into chicken with Zinglet. The UK chicken market is crowded but operators who already understand fast casual operations have a real advantage on the supply chain and site selection side.

@FarmersWeekly @FarmersWeekly The High Court ruling is a real blow for farming families who have been working the same land for generations. Inheritance tax on agricultural assets needs a proper rethink if we want family farms to survive, not just large-scale operations.

@FarmersWeekly @FarmersWeekly Supply chain disruption from the Middle East conflict shows how exposed British agriculture still is to global events. Crops rotting in fields while costs climb is a brutal combination for farmers already under pressure. Domestic resilience has to be the priority.

@CotswoldSeeds @CotswoldSeeds British weather keeping everyone on their toes as usual. At least it keeps the soil health conversations interesting when you can go from sunshine to hail in the same afternoon. The Cotswolds do unpredictable weather particularly well.

@CotswoldSeeds @CotswoldSeeds SFI wild bird mixes are one of the more practical ways to combine environmental stewardship with workable farm economics. Getting the timing right on spring sowing makes a real difference to establishment, so good to see you flagging it now.

@InchDairnieDist @InchDairnieDist A Scottish rye whisky Boulevardier is a proper twist on a classic. The grain character from RyeLaw should bring something quite different to the usual bourbon base. Simple serves that let the spirit do the talking are often the best way to win new drinkers over.

@the_brc @the_brc A new enterprise-focused cabinet minister in Wales is a chance to reset the conversation around business rates and high street costs. Welsh retailers have been asking for practical support for years, so the real test is whether policy follows the welcome.

@the_brc @KPMG @the_brc A 1.2% drop with a 4% food decline makes more sense when you factor in Easter timing shifting spend between months. The underlying trend matters more than any single month, and Scottish retailers will be watching May figures closely for a clearer picture.

@FCSA_org Half a billion lost to disguised remuneration in a single year makes it clear why enforcement had to tighten. For agencies that already vetted their supply chain properly, these reforms just formalise what good practice looked like anyway.

HMRC estimated £500 million was lost to disguised remuneration schemes in a single tax year (*HMRC, Measuring Tax Gaps 2023). That figure is why the April 2026 reforms landed as hard as they did. Joint and several liability. A new Fair Work Agency. Tightened SSP rules. The government isn't signalling intent anymore. It's enforcing it. For agencies and end clients, the message is clear: you are now accountable for who you put in your supply chain. FCSA has been saying this for years. Our accreditation scheme exists to give the market a credible, independently assessed benchmark for compliant umbrella operation. The contractors flowing through the UK's supply chains deserve better than a race to the bottom on costs. So do the agencies who place them. We're the professional body that holds the line.
