New: Press used to have to fill out a sign-in sheet to bring their phones into Richmond’s John Marshall Courts Building. No one, it seems, knows who started the policy. wric.com/news/taking-ac…

Mariah Carey on overhead lighting to Las Culturistas: “I can’t with the overhead lighting. Why do they do it to us? I shouldn’t say us, it’s not us, it’s me. I’m the one who’s the most tortured by the hideous lighting in elevators, doorway, gyms - not that I go to the gym, I’m just saying. It’s hideous lighting. The sun is OK if it’s sunset, I’ll gladly go outside and put a little hat on or whatever and that’ll be pretty because the sunlight caresses your skin. But it’s bad for you, so you have to be careful. But overhead lighting I don’t think so honey. Please stop it! Everywhere I go, shut the lights! I don’t want to see them no more. Overhead lighting, it makes me sick…”

This is an important case on several levels. How can Richmond just give away valuable public property without a transparent, competitive bidding process? The government sunlight advocates really should be weighing in here. And it’s hard for RVA to say they need to raise taxes or need more funding when they’re giving away multi-million dollar property.
