RH Uncovered magazine has features on Dr Beeching and East Grinstead Chess Club. I wonder if they know there's a link between them. Dr Beeching was a member of the club, which was co-founded by Mr Eichner and astronomer Patrick Moore, who (oddly) isn't mentioned in the article.

This morning's walk took me (via coffee at the bookshop) back into the mysterious East. In case anyone didn't know, there are several of these Meridian Line markers in East Grinstead.
