After nearly 40 yrs of serving Wichita in various roles with the Wichita Fire Department, Elizabeth "Tammy" Snow announces her retirement, eff. August 2026. She was appointed as the department chief in 2017, becoming the first female fire chief since the founding of WFD in 1886.

Stay in the kitchen while cooking. Keep all flammable items away from heat sources. If you have a grease fire, smother flames by sliding a lid on the pan & turn off the burner. Leave pan until completely cooled. In case of an oven fire, turn off the heat & keep the door closed.

A red flag warning has been issued for Wichita & the surrounding areas; critical fire weather conditions are occurring. Fire may rapidly grow & spread out of control. If you smoke, make sure you extinguish them completely in designated receptable. Report unattended outdoor fires.
