And when the moment was right, officers on the ground moved in. Let’s just say… the night didn’t end the way the burglar planned. 🎥 Watch how it all unfolded in the video below.

Suspect Arrested After Stolen Vehicle Recovered; Detective Seriously Injured During Arrest WICHITA, Kan. — Wichita police recovered a stolen vehicle Tuesday morning and arrested an 18-year-old male suspect after he resisted officers, seriously injuring a detective during the arrest. At about 7:10 a.m. March 17, 2026, a 911 caller reported a light blue Mercedes-Benz C300 stolen after it had been left running to warm up. A Wichita Police detective located the vehicle at a nearby motel in the 1400 block of N. Broadway. Patrol officers responded to assist, and officers initiated a traffic stop. When officers attempted to arrest the suspect, he resisted. During the arrest, a detective suffered a serious injury to his face. EMS transported the detective to a local hospital. The injury is not considered life-threatening. Today, we are grateful our detective is going to be OK,” Chief Joe Sullivan said. “This incident is a stark reminder that police work is dangerous and unpredictable. Every day, the men and women of this department put on the uniform and go into this community prepared to face risk, not for recognition, but to serve. They do it selflessly. They do it with courage. And they do it because they are committed to protecting this city and the people who call Wichita home.” Officer arrested the suspect at the scene. He will be booked into the Sedgwick County Jail on charges of aggravated assault on a law enforcement officer, battery on a law enforcement officer, felony theft, and resisting an officer. This longstanding event brings people together in support of Rainbows United and the vital programs and services they provide to local families. Throughout the morning, Chief Sullivan had the opportunity to connect with community members while serving pancakes and supporting a meaningful cause. Events like this highlight the strong partnership between our department and the community we are honored to serve. Thank you to everyone who participated, volunteered, and continues to support Rainbows United and the positive impact they make.

The wind didn't stop today’s St. Patrick’s Church parade or the people who proudly marched in it. Despite the strong gusts, Chief Sullivan and members of the Wichita Police Department led the parade with pride. The spirit of the day remained strong from start to finish. Families lined the route, supporters cheered, and parade participants continued moving with pride, energy, and plenty of spirit. It was a great day for tradition, community, and celebration in Wichita. Thank you to everyone who came out and made it special.

🚨 SCAM ALERT – Wichita Residents 🚨 The Wichita Police Department is warning residents about a recent scam involving individuals claiming to represent Uber. In this scam, a caller tells the victim that an Uber driver will come to their home to pick up money. This is fraudulent. 🔹 Uber does NOT collect cash from your home. 🔹 Uber operates as a cashless service through its app. 🔹 If you did not request an Uber ride through the app, there is no reason for Uber to contact you asking for money. 🔹 No bank, law enforcement agency, or legitimate business will ever ask you to give cash to an Uber driver. Requests like this are always a scam. Please remember: • Never give out personal or banking information to unsolicited callers. • Do not exchange cash with anyone claiming to be an Uber driver collecting money. If you receive a call like this or believe you may have been targeted, please contact the Wichita Police Department Financial Crimes Section at 316-268-4407. Please share this information to help protect others in our community.
