This is the street I used to live on in San Francisco. I’d breathe in the fog and let the wind assault my face every time I walked outside, I’d walk outside for miles and miles down the coastline because I was bored and my hair would always be messed up and windswept and there were some weeks I wouldn’t leave my apartment at all and I’d drink entire bottles of red wine by myself in one sitting and write letters to myself convincing myself of all of the reasons why I should be grateful to be alive. I’d lay on the floor and sing Morrissey to myself because it was too foggy and windy to go outside. I had no friends no family in San Francisco and I thought I was so brave for moving across the country all on my own on a whim to “start a new life”. The only new life I started here was Bronze Age shawty because I was so lonely and sad. I thought San Francisco would be beautiful, charming descriptions of North Beach in Kerouac novels made me think it’d be a city to find real people in, but the city isn’t what it was back then, nothing is real in San Francisco and I’ll never go back there unless you drag me by my hair
