We both left home at 18. You cleared JAMB I got recommended. You got UNIVERSITY, I got NDA. You pursued your degree, I had the toughest training. Your day started at 7 and ended at 5, Mine started at 4 till 9 and Some nights also included. You had your convocation ceremony, I had my POP. Best company took you and Best package was awarded, I was ordered to join my platoon With 2 stars piped on my shoulders. You got a job, I got a way of life. Every eve you got to see your family, I just wished i got to see my parents soon. You celebrated festivals with lights and music, I celebrated with my comrade in bunkers. We both married, Your wife got to see you everyday, My wife just wished i was alive. You were sent to business trips, I was sent on line of control. We both returned, Both wives couldn't control their tears, but You wiped her but, I couldn't. You hugged her but, I couldn't. Because I was lying in the coffin, With medals on my chest and, Coffin wrapped with tricolour. My way of life ended, Yours continued. We both left home at 18. I dedicate this to every soldier and uniform person out there, we don't understand what you do and the sacrifices you make, but know that we are eternally grateful!

Today, the Yoruba Wikimedians User Group, in collaboration with the Lagos State University’s Centre for Yoruba Studies organized the 2026 edition of International Mother Language Day. The Yoruba Wikimedians User Group is working hard to bridge the gap between academics and the Wikimedia community.

When the Senate rejected the ministerial nomination of Nasir El-Rufai in 2023 over security concerns, many of us reacted emotionally. We believed a loyal ally of the president had been unfairly humiliated, and we did not hesitate to criticize the Senate for its decision. However, recent revelations attributed to him, particularly regarding alleged tapping of sensitive communications are deeply troubling and raise serious questions that cannot be ignored. In light of this, we acknowledge that our earlier criticism of the Senate was premature. Institutions entrusted with national oversight often see what the public does not. For that, we owe the Senate an unreserved apology.

The Yoruba Wikimedians User Group, in collaboration with the Department of Linguistics, African and Asian Studies; the National Information Technology Hub; the Institute of African and Diaspora Studies (IADS); and Plotweaver, is organizing a two-day Indigenous Language Workshop. The theme is “Yoruba and Igbo in Conversation with AI.” Join us to explore the interplay between AI and Yoruba and Igbo languages.

We received some incredible entries for the Wikipedia 25 Cake Baking Contest organized by the Yoruba Wikimedians User Group and we want to appreciate all participants for their creativity and spectacularity. It was not just a cake baking contest but also a celebration of creativity and 25 years of free knowledge.

The Wikipedia 25th Anniversary Celebration by the Yoruba Wikimedians User Group was a meaningful moment to reflect on our shared values and responsibilities. It reaffirmed our commitment to knowledge, collaboration, and community impact.

Yesterday, the Yoruba Wikimedians User Group marked the 25th anniversary of Wikipedia with a vibrant celebration. The event featured cake exhibitions, a Wikipedia quiz, and several engaging activities. One of the highlights of the celebration was the maiden edition of the Wikipedia Baking Contest, organized as part of the anniversary activities. Ojajuni Betty emerged as the winner of the contest and went home with the grand prize of ₦1 million.
