Multinational science Delphi: - #COVID is airborne (100%); - indoor areas drive transmission (100%); - N95 masks help (96%); - public health pushes false info by denying airborne (90%); - vax alone can't end COVID (97%); - false info undermines social cohesion for response (99%)

Claude routinely writes code that takes hours to run, when I look at it, there's something that should be O(logN) but Claude wrote an algo that is O(N^2). I prompt it with something like "your algo is too inefficient, improve it". After hours it comes back with an algo that is like O(N^3). Then I look at it for like a minute, figure it out. When I explain to it the correct algo it always blows Claude's "mind". "WOW! This is so much better." The more I use AI the more impressed I am with my own intelligence. Some day Claude will convince me I reached AGI.

I don't know how to describe what's happening in Alberta politics anymore beyond: "We're hitting the final two episodes of the season." Either the story arcs are about to come together and end swiftly, or we're heading into summer on a cliffhanger.

No-one is predicting a US recession in 2026 despite this simple indicator having a 100% track record of success. This time may well be different, but you've got to have a bloody good reason to ignore this. Are you feeling confident?

Société Générale's Albert Edwards points to a labor market chart with a flawless track record of predicting a recession since 1950. Is the US economy ignoring history, or is this time different? bit.ly/49cvvRp

I’m excited to say that my first book DEPRAVITY: The Story of Dangerous Art will be published next year by @FaberBooks in the UK, and @VikingBooks in the US 🖤 it tells the story of art from a darker perspective, charting the most immoral art ever produced by humanity..

@daisyldixon You are 1000% on to something here, Daisy. The toxicity is just not so obvious that Kier Starmer threatened to unplug X now. None of this has gone away, just went a little underground for a minute.

Many men today still feel entitled to women’s bodies and this has now spread to online spaces - objectifying and shaming our very digital existence. We all must educate boys to help them resist the manosphere, and learn deep rooted respect for women’s and girl’s autonomy.

Grok has apparently turned off its image generation. This will mean at least a pause of these offences which is good, but I’m worried it’s a panicked sticking plaster for a deeper problem: unethical AI design and pervasive misogyny …

Un de mes graphes préférés est arrivé pour 2025! Chaque point est une heure de production d’un pays: en abscisse la production, en ordonnée son intensité carbone. Chaque pays a une couleur différente. Bravo la France (en bleu)! Merci Thomas’s projects. bit.ly/45uDkiY

The US continues to lose manufacturing jobs—payrolls are down 75k over the last year, & another 8k jobs were lost in December Transportation (especially auto manufacturing), wood, and electronics/electrical manufacturing are the biggest losers, but few subsectors are doing well

It turns out that my 2 TB thumb drive is composed of 1.9m 1 MB blocks and exfat formatting will allocate one file per block, meaning I had about a 70x storage overhead. I have literally never encountered this problem before, but then again, I've never built a recursive filesystem with over 200 million files which essentially is a decompression bomb.

It's not just that total manufacturing employment is shrinking. The number of manufacturing sub-sectors that are adding jobs is rapidly shrinking. Of the 72 different types of manufacturing tracked by the BLS, just 38.2% are still adding jobs. A year ago it was 47.2%

@aparachick Hey, hey! I'd say that these are broadly correct. I did some more analysis since then and added some empirical data from the human trial, where they measured Omicron growth in human nose and mouth samples for 18 infected volunteers in 12-hour strides.

Why is America losing its allure to foreign researchers and science students? The most straightforward reason is money, or the looming lack of it as a result of Trump administration funding cuts econ.st/43uptr0
