🧵Pond soundscapes are bursting with life and mysterious sounds! Aquatic insects rub hard body parts together to attract mates and submerged plants release oxygen bubbles as they respire in the hot sun. #Winterwatch 🎥by @carlsayerUCL @BBCSpringwatch

Join me and @fishsoundsweb as we push past the bulrushes and dive below the lily pads into the bizarre and mysterious underwater acoustic world of pond sounds. We also dodge hippos and crocs as we venture up the River Gambia. 🦛🐊 youtube.com/watch?v=qdwvIe…

6. I have also been deploying some HydroMoths to listen in on the mysterious and yet to be described underwater sounds in the river. Coupled with eDNA metabarcoding and local knowledge, we hope to learn lots about this understudied river.

Studying the effects of saltwater intrusion with the #Salbia team in the Gambia River🇬🇲, a thread 🧵 1. It was a real privilege to join the #Salbia team in The Gambia to deploy some @OpenAcoustics HydroMoths alongside their comprehensive sampling campaign (see below 4 more )
