@Serenitee_Sam YOUR rights weren't being violated. If they had a legal permit for an event that gave them exclusive use of a designated area for the duration of the event then you were trespassing. My father always had a great line for how people's rights work: Your rights END where mine begin

Knowing your rights changes EVERYTHING. Watch what happens when they try to shut this camera down… Kaitlin Bennett was filming people-on-the-street interviews at the Winter Garden Farmers Market. Police and city staff told Bennett her activities needed to be conducted outside the event's perimeter, as past market practices typically restricted event activity to approved vendors. When she entered the event area, she was issued a trespass warning and threatened with arrest. Following a review, the City Manager and the Police Department acknowledged that the market, while hosted by a third party, took place on unclosed public right-of-way. The city rescinded the trespass notice, apologized, and permitted Bennett to return, noting that the restriction violated her First Amendment right to record in a traditional public forum. Bennett subsequently returned to the market the following week. Bennett was also involved in a similar situation at the Lakeland Farmers Market in May 2025. In that instance, she claimed her free speech rights were violated after police responded to complaints about her filming and "hateful statements". However, city officials clarified that she was not trespassed from the market, though the dispute drew local attention regarding the boundaries of filming on public spaces. No legal cases or arrests were ultimately filed in either situation.

I’ve seen some things, but watching a police department admit they were wrong to a citizen? That hits different. Jeff Gray, who refers to himself as a "civil rights investigator," was holding a sign at the Sanford Farmers Market to advocate for homeless veterans. Officers were called to the scene after complaints were made about his presence. During the encounter, officers told Gray he was being trespassed from the area and ordered him to leave. At one point, an officer told him, "You can exercise your right somewhere else, we just don't want you here." Shortly after the initial encounter, the officers returned to Gray and informed him that they had made a mistake, acknowledging that he was exercising his First Amendment rights. The Sanford Police Department later posted a statement on their Facebook page confirming they were aware of the incident, admitted a mistake was made, and stated that the officers involved were being addressed. They emphasized their commitment to upholding First Amendment rights in future service calls. Jeff Gray is known for "First Amendment auditing," a practice where he travels to different cities to film police and local government officials to test their compliance with constitutional rights. He has been involved in several high-profile legal cases and settlements across the Southeast—particularly in Georgia—where cities have been forced to change their policies, undergo training, or pay damages after violating his rights to demonstrate or record police activity.

Imagine a man so brilliant that 2,200 years later, we still speak his name with awe. A man so ingenious to build pumps for irrigation still used today, mirrors that could burn ships at a distance and much more. His name was Archimedes of Syracuse (c. 287–212 BC). Born in the ancient Greek city-state of Syracuse in Sicily, this legendary mathematician, physicist, and inventor didn’t just study the world, he bent it to his will. He calculated π with astonishing precision using the “method of exhaustion,” proved that a sphere’s volume is exactly two-thirds of its surrounding cylinder (a discovery he cherished above all others), and laid the earliest foundations of calculus centuries before Newton. He also wrote The Sand Reckoner, where he devised a system for expressing extremely large numbers and estimated how many grains of sand would fill the universe. One day, while stepping into his bath, he discovered the principle of buoyancy, now known as Archimedes’ Principle, and famously ran naked through the streets shouting “EUREKA!” (“I have found it!”). He gave us the law of the lever, boldly declaring: “Give me a place to stand and a lever long enough, and I shall move the Earth.” But Archimedes wasn’t just a thinker. He was a genius inventor. He created the Archimedes Screw, a revolutionary water pump still used around the world today. He designed powerful compound pulleys and cranes. And when the Roman army besieged Syracuse during the Second Punic War, he became a one-man defense force, engineering devastating catapults and the fearsome “Claw of Archimedes,” a massive crane that lifted enemy ships out of the water and smashed them against the rocks. Ancient writings even credit him with inventing burning mirrors, giant arrays of polished bronze that focused the sun’s rays to set Roman warships ablaze from afar. While historians still debate the exact details, modern experiments have proven the idea is scientifically possible under the right conditions. In 212 BC, when Roman forces finally breached the city, General Marcellus gave strict orders: spare Archimedes. Yet as the great thinker sat drawing mathematical diagrams in the sand, a Roman soldier killed him. His last words? “Do not disturb my circles!” His surviving works shaped Galileo, Leibniz, Newton, and the entire Scientific Revolution. He remains one of the greatest minds humanity has ever produced — a bridge between ancient genius and modern science.

@SawyerMerritt Vote No on any taxes and do not vote for any politician that votes for new taxes or tax increases. I would say "it's that simple" but the reality is it's not. At some point we need a law that makes "lying" illegal coupled with a stiff penalty for committing it.

U.S. House lawmakers have proposed bipartisan legislation that ‌would require electric vehicles to pay a $130 fee to pay for road repairs annually and $35 for some plug-in hybrid models. The House is working on a five-year highway reauthorization bill expected to ‌cost more than $500 billion ahead of the current law expiration on Sept 30, 2026. Most revenue for federally funded road repairs is collected through diesel and gasoline taxes, which EVs do not pay. I think $130 is fair since over time there will be fewer gas vehicles on the road generating tax revenue, They'll need to make up the difference somewhere so they can keep repairing roads, etc. Full bill text in thread below:

NEW: Texas officer investigating a fire on private property shoots a dog after being attacked Last Friday, Arp Police Officer Pereida responded to a large fire behind a residence. While approaching the fence line to check if the home was in danger, two dogs crawled under the fence and attempted to attack him. The officer fired two shots from his service pistol, striking one dog. The injured dog fled, and the second dog continued to approach. Bodycam footage was activated after the shots and shows part of the encounter. The dog’s owner later told the chief that “everyone around here knows my dogs will bite” and that the officer should have taken a bite instead of shooting. Chief Joe Keegan reviewed the footage and ruled the officer’s actions legal and appropriate. The dog ultimately required euthanasia.

The ancient Roman aqueducts, including impressive examples still standing in modern-day Turkey, stand as powerful evidence of the Roman Empire’s remarkable engineering and architectural prowess. These sophisticated water systems were built to deliver fresh water to growing urban populations and represented a major advancement over earlier water management structures developed in Egypt and India. Constructed over approximately 500 years, from 312 BC to AD 226, the aqueducts received funding from both public resources and private donors. Many of Rome’s most prominent emperors, including Augustus, Caligula, and Trajan, ordered their construction. Roman engineers designed these systems using a combination of pipes, tunnels, canals, and arched bridges. By skillfully following the natural contours of the land, the structures relied entirely on gravity to channel water from distant lakes and springs into cities. Once it arrived, the water supplied essential needs such as drinking, irrigation, public fountains, and grand bath complexes. The city of Rome itself was served by as many as eleven separate aqueducts, some bringing water from sources up to 92 kilometers (57 miles) away. Remarkably, a few of these ancient structures remain in use today. The Aqua Virgo, constructed in 19 BC by Marcus Agrippa under Emperor Augustus, still flows through Rome and supplies the famous Trevi Fountain. This extraordinary engineering achievement highlights the lasting influence of Roman innovation on modern infrastructure and urban planning.
