Morning routine of elite runner: Wake up, down water, eat a banana, sip coffee, go to the bathroom, go run. Morning routine of bro cosplaying "elite": Cold plunge, nasal breathing exercise, supplement stack, meticulous nonsense, no time for full workout because they wasted it

@georgetolisjr Always interesting to hear what’s advertised to the public vs what people see firsthand…especially in the academia realm

If you hear about a bioprosthetic valve with 0% early/midterm failure or a “center of excellence” with 100% mitral repair rate, you should be very suspicious. If you hear about 0% STS mortality look for the attached palliative care floor belonging to a different hospital.

@georgetolisjr Several in our group were talking yesterday—it seems even non-chiefs in some places have a huge persona and a well known name, but when the rubber meets the road, not much to back it up. Was this common in years past, too, or a newer phenomenon?

There are many previously reputable cardiac surgery divisions around the country that are struggling or have already sustained significant reputational damage because the operative skills of the chief they hired is not commensurate of the national exposure they had been afforded.

To novice runners, a marathon is often considered the ultimate challenge. A 5k is the entry event. But... running a good 5k can be much more challenging. You are riding a line, it's hard from the get go. We are biased towards equating distance to challenge.

@stevemagness Ha I wish I could say it did to me also, but that type of mile speed never really materialized for me 🤷🏻‍♂️

@DBelardoMD Sooooo…did they give clearance?? Did they want to look at the targets and echo before giving their blessing?

Today, for the first time as a cardiologist, I had a patient tell me they need pre op clearance/input from their naturopath before seeing CT surgery for urgent CABG. The naturopath/holistic world has irreparably harmed our patients. And no one is stopping it.

@DGlaucomflecken Insurance companies would love to pick up a bunch of 3 year olds they could put on the phone and yell “NO!” all day…

I’m calling on Congress to pass the Junk Fee Prevention Act – because these unfair charges add up. No company should overcharge you and get away with it. It’s a basic question of fairness.

Not participating in @usnews medical school rankings is the right move for @harvardmed . There is a difference between academic ratings and reviews of pressure cookers, diapers and toilet paper. Hopefully hospitals will follow suit.
