@DanRShafer While I won’t say no one looks at per pupil funding when evaluating where to move, I don’t think it’s top of the list for many. The policies that will incentivize growth largely lay outside education spending and are things that Gov. Evers has generally opposed.

@WillFlandersWI But those are the figures leading to this degrowth. So, how can you say that it's an adequate investment if the goal is to grow the state?

Discussing the reality of school funding isn’t a “degrowth mindset.” We’d all love to see more growth. But until growth returns, keeping funding flat means more $ per pupil. When the K12 pop is growing again, we can reevaluate.
Dan Shafer@DanRShafer

We should refuse to accept this degrowth mindset, refuse to accept a Wisconsin with "fewer kids to educate." We should be doing more to invest in our future and stop this absurd shell game of shifting the tax burden from the state to already over-burdened local taxpayers.

@DanRShafer I would dispute the claim that we’re not investing in education when we are spending $18,592 per student.

@WillFlandersWI Why not invest in the state's education and make it so people wan to raise their kids here?

Email from admin: “Please document your plan and anticipated challenges for students who failed the last grading period.” My plan: teach Challenge: The student hasn’t been here since December Next steps: Call the truant officer… oh wait, we don’t do that anymore

@BrittCudaback Because of rapidly declining enrollment, simply maintaining state funding means state funding per pupil goes up.

Wisconsinites are paying the price for excessive regulation every single day, at the grocery store, on their energy bills as well as the rising cost of housing and everyday goods. WI is 2nd most regulated state in Midwest, only trailing IL. Time for change maciverinstitute.com/news/evers-vet…

@jeff_gluck I stopped watching in 2017 with the stages. Giving it a go again this year thanks to N Wilkesboro and playoff changes. By far the best race since I’ve been back despite stages still messing it up.

@AlextheAdm1ral It’s also the stages. Remove the opportunity for random strategies to be effective and change up the order.

With the Next Gen's issues this isn't too surprising, but I think the loss of Happy Hour plays a bigger role in this than people might think. Reducing the changes a team can make between Qualifying and Race trim makes it less likely for the poor starters to work their way up

Drivers starting on the front row have won 17 of the last 25 Cup Series races. This is the most wins by the front row over a 25-race span since the spring of 1974, over 50 years ago.

Among the broken parts of WI’s byzantine school funding system, the school levy tax credit is an area of cross-partisan disdain. Public school advocates dislike that it’s not “spendable”. Fiscal conservatives dislike how it incents districts to spend more. They’re both right!
Patrick McIlheran@PaddyMacMke

Wisconsin's school levy tax credit is supposed to soften the blow of school spending. But it rewards school districts that increase spending faster than average -- at the expense of taxpayers in districts that restrain their spending. Oops. badgerinstitute.org/school-levy-ta…

Trump's comment on Mueller is disgusting. And, yes, it is an example of how our political discourse has become degraded and he has contributed. No excuses. No buts.

Bob Mueller was one of the finest directors in the history of the FBI, transforming the bureau after 9/11 and saving countless lives. But it was his relentless commitment to the rule of law and his unwavering belief in our bedrock values that made him one of the most respected public servants of our time. Michelle and I send our condolences to Bob’s family, and everyone who knew and admired him.

Public schools apparently have realized the can no longer lie about their failures, and have now decided to blame taxpayers. $18,592 per kid is more than enough. Private and charter schools get better results for $1000s less per student.

Reading and math proficiency rates have plummeted in the last 25 years, and WI lawmakers’ inaction on addressing the public school funding crisis has contributed to this decline. Learn more about the new lawsuit to change that: fundwipublicschools.org/case

Wisconsin is the 13th most regulated state in the nation and 2nd worst in the Midwest. Unnecessary regulation drives up costs for families and businesses. Despite this, Gov. Evers just vetoed a package of bills that would have reduced this burden. We can't afford to not reform.
