This is the beauty of the WBC:
A 29-year-old bearded electrician from Ostrava, Czechia who has played baseball his whole life in a country where very few play the sport helps Czechia qualify for its first-ever WBC, strikes out Shohei Ohtani on a pitch he says came out of his hand wrong, and becomes one of the faces of the Classic.
Ondřej Satoria, who is retiring from the national team after this tournament, will leave Japan where he gets stopped for autographs and photos and receives standing ovations, and fly back to Ostrava where he’s a normal guy with a simple life.
And while no one back home is stopping him in the streets for autographs, imagine the stories he’ll have for his 2-year-old son when he grows up.

I get that a lot of people don’t watch hockey. But please understand you’re wrong. Here’s the beginning 9 seconds of the last time team USA beat team Canada in the 4 nations tournament. Canada ultimately won the final against us in a rematch but the rematch of all rematches for Olympic GOLD goes down this Sunday. This is cinema. USA hasn’t won a gold medal in hockey since 1980 against the Russians. The game the movie “Miracle” was based on. Act accordingly. *eagle screech* 🇺🇸🏒🇨🇦

I’m completely stunned. The Palace Restaurant on 57th street. A diner that I’ve probably been to at least once a week for the last 10 years was closed today when I got there. Inside totally emptied out. No sign or anything that says what happened. Was just there last week.
