A huge thank you to everyone - AMS staff, volunteers, Middle Atmosphere Committee members (pictured here) - that made #AMS22Middle possible! It was wonderful to see groundbreaking contributions to science & community engagement. We are excited for future action items to come!

There's 11 days left to apply for these two PhD positions, to join the @IscaModel team at Exeter. Join us to investigate predictions of extreme winter weather, or to better understand heat transport in (exo)planetary atmospheres. Open to UK and international students.

I'm also looking for a new PhD student to join our group @ExeterUniMaths to investigate tipping points in forecasts of extreme winter weather using explainable AI. In collaboration with @StephenIThomson and Adam Scaife (UoE and Met Office). Details here: exeter.ac.uk/study/funding/…

I'm looking for a new #PhD student to come and join our group @ExeterUniMaths. We'll be exploring heat transport in atmospheres within and outside our solar system using @IscaModel and theory. Co-supervised by @WillSeviour and @GeoffVallis. exeter.ac.uk/study/funding/…

One thing I really don't understand about UK research grants is how 'Indirect costs' are calculated. It seems rather shrouded in mystery, but the numbers are a substantial percentage of the total award. Could someone shed some light on this for me?

I remember being very excited when @joanne_morten sent me this excellent project idea for our 2021 CMIP6 hackathon. It's great to see this now published - well done to Jo and the team!

New research led by @UniofExeter and @metoffice suggests Arctic Terns – which fly on the longest migrations of any animal on Earth – may be able to navigate the dangers posed by #climatechange. Dr Joanne Morten tells us more about the study 👇 Read more: bit.ly/3KgWazo

Reading about the 'significant' increases to UK visa fees on the way. In case anyone thinks they are currently cheap, @HannahSus and I have already spent well over £10k on visa fees during the last 5 years.

The project will suit candidates with interests, though not necessarily experience, in fluid dynamics, planetary atmospheres, and climate. Do get in touch if you have any questions - deadline April 27! 8/8

A broader aim will be investigating links between polar vortex structure and Mars's polar layered deposits - the only climate record we have of a planet other than Earth. 7/8
