One of my favorite things in any band is a full horn section.
Maybe that’s old school, but I was in marching band and symphonic orchestra, so that sound has always stuck with me.
This group built their entire identity around it, not background horns, a full brass section right up front.
They started in the late 60s under a longer name tied to their hometown in Illinois, and their debut was a bold double album.
Early on they leaned jazzy, then found a groove mixing rock, pop, and ballads.
A lot of you named their original guitarist as a favorite, and his loss in 1978 changed everything.
I'm pretty sure most of you know the name of this band.
