Breaking: Microsoft blocks Windows 11's July 2026 Update on some PCs due to concerns of "poor performance, unexpected shutdowns, increased heat, and battery drain." According to Microsoft, the July 2026 Patch Tuesday update (KB5101650) is blocked on some Dell PCs because of a bad Intel driver compatibility issue. After installing the June 23 preview update KB5095093, some Dell devices may show a yellow warning icon in Device Manager next to: Intel Innovation Platform Framework Processor Participant Microsoft says affected devices can suffer poor performance, unexpected shutdowns, increased heat, and battery drain. The issue is tied to an incompatibility between Intel’s driver and the new Windows USB-C Connection Manager interface. Because of this, Microsoft is now holding back KB5101650, the July 14 security update for Windows 11 24H2 and 25H2, on affected Dell devices while it works with Dell and partners on a fix. It's unclear if other OEMs are also running into problems.

Windows 11's July 2026 Patch Tuesday is absolutely massive. You should immediately install today's security update. Microsoft just patched a record-breaking 570 security flaws in one month, including 59 rated Critical. The numbers are wild: - 254 elevation of privilege bugs - 145 remote code execution bugs - 102 information disclosure bugs - 35 denial of service bugs - 17 security bypass bugs - 16 spoofing bugs And that still does not include 468 Microsoft Edge/Chromium flaws fixed by Google this month, or other Microsoft fixes shipped earlier for Azure, M365 Copilot, Exchange Online, Entra, and more. Microsoft also patched three zero-days: two actively exploited in attacks and one publicly disclosed. This is interesting, but I'm not really surprised because Microsoft recently warned that Patch Tuesday counts would rise as it uses AI-powered vulnerability discovery to find more bugs inside Windows before attackers do. Microsoft also recommended that users not delay updates for more than 3 days due to a rise in AI-assisted exploitation of unpatched systems.

This is the new Windows 11 Search experience without clutter and ads! Microsoft is letting you turn off Bing/web integration, remove ads, and all unnecessary features to create a clean Search experience on Windows 11. The home screen is calmer, promotional content is gone from web results, and search now labels results more clearly as app, setting, file, web, or Store. Local files, apps, and settings are prioritized when they are the better match. And most importantly -- you can now control whether web and Microsoft Store results appear at all!! That means you can finally stop Windows Search from acting like a Bing launcher when you’re just trying to find something on your own PC. Microsoft is also improving typo handling for apps, two-character file searches, settings ranking, cloud file discovery, and crash reliability. Windows is so back! 🥳

Intel’s major driver update for Windows 11 delivers a performance boost and ships with Microsoft’s quality promise. On June 30, Intel released Wi-Fi and Bluetooth driver version 24.50.0, and the key line is that it includes enhancements aligned with Microsoft’s Windows ecosystem quality initiative. That’s Microsoft’s Driver Quality Initiative, or DQI. At WinHEC 2026, Microsoft told Intel, AMD, Qualcomm, HP, and other partners that drivers need to stop hurting Windows 11’s reliability and reputation. Bad drivers cause BSODs, failed installs, overheating, broken Wi-Fi, update loops, and users blame Windows even when the OEM or silicon vendor caused it. DQI is Microsoft trying to raise the floor. It comes with Microsoft-authored class drivers, less unnecessary kernel-mode interference, and more user-mode drivers where possible. 📸 ASUS ZenBook Duo with dual-screen setup

I just opened Copilot with a lot of chats, and it's already using 800MB of RAM, which isn't necessarily a bad thing. But Copilot is a web slop and is literally a Microsoft Edge container.

Windows 11 AI now tells you what’s slowing down your PC, while Copilot itself uses 1 GB of RAM doing nothing. The feature is called PC Insights, and it lets Copilot read system info like CPU usage, RAM usage, GPU usage, storage space, battery health, connected USB devices, network state, BIOS version, antivirus status, and more, with your permission. In theory, this is useful, as you can ask: “What’s my current CPU usage?” “Do I have enough space for a 100GB game?” “What graphics card do I have?” And all beginner-friendly questions to avoid digging through Task Manager, Settings, and File Explorer. However, the current Copilot app is a full web app, ships with its own private copy of Microsoft Edge, shows up as a browser in Task Manager, and used nearly 1GB of RAM in my testing while doing almost nothing. If Microsoft wants Copilot to diagnose Windows performance, it should first move Copilot, Teams, and other apps to Windows 11's WinUI native framework. Enough of the web slop!

A 19-year-old alleged Scattered Spider hacker tried to hide behind VPNs, proxies, and international travel. Microsoft had something stronger: a Windows 11 device ID. US prosecutors say Peter Stokes was traced through a Global Device Identifier, or GDID, tied to the same Windows installation that showed up across ngrok, Microsoft services, Snapchat, Apple logins, game accounts, and travel-linked IPs across multiple countries. The GDID is a persistent identifier generated by Windows used for telemetry, licensing, and update services. It does not change when a user switches IP addresses or uses a VPN, effectively "fingerprinting" the specific hardware installation A VPN can rotate your location, but a persistent Windows device identifier does not change. Most Windows users have never heard of GDID. There is no clear consumer-facing reset button, no obvious consent screen, and almost no public explanation from Microsoft beyond enterprise documentation.

Microsoft is setting a new industry standard by dropping the mandatory Microsoft account login requirement across its products, starting with Edge browser, Bing, and Microsoft Rewards. Microsoft says you can now use Bing, including Microsoft Rewards, without a Microsoft account. That means Android and iPhone users can sign into Bing with the account they already use and start earning Rewards points without creating an MSA first. For comparison, you cannot use most Google services without a Google account. Google Search is also becoming more aggressive with AI results, while Bing now balances regular search and AI better. Microsoft is even working on a toggle to turn off AI entirely in Bing, something Google still hasn’t offered properly. The same user-control story is showing up across Windows 11 too. Microsoft is adding a toggle to remove Bing from Windows Search, and we’re expecting Microsoft account sign-in to become optional in more Windows 11 flows in the coming months.

Less than 5% of Microsoft’s 450M commercial Microsoft 365 customers pay for Copilot. And among the users who do pay, only 20–30% reportedly open it weekly. That means Microsoft 365 Copilot’s weekly active footprint is close to 1% of the customer base. And now Microsoft 365 customers are getting price hikes, with more AI bundled into the bill whether they asked for it or not. Microsoft spent three years forcing Copilot into Windows, Office, Edge, Teams, Notepad, Paint, File Explorer, and even keyboards. So Copilot’s problem was never just availability, as Microsoft made it impossible to avoid.

Microsoft has rolled out a patch for the Windows 11 storage bug, but it still does not list it as a known issue. It'll be included in the July 14 Patch Tuesday update for everyone. More details in our story: windowslatest.com/2026/07/06/mic…

Microsoft confirms Windows 11 has a nasty storage bug that can silently eat hundreds of GB from your C: drive. If Settings > Storage > System & reserved shows System files using 100GB, 200GB, or even 500GB, random downloads may not be the problem. A protected file called CapabilityAccessManager.db-wal can grow out of control, and it's found inside: C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\Windows\CapabilityAccessManager\ This file is tied to Windows privacy/access logging for things like camera, microphone, location, and screen capture. Normally, it should be a few MB. On affected PCs, users have reported 70GB, 110GB, 200GB, and even 513GB. Microsoft quietly fixed it in KB5095093, saying the update “improves disk space usage” for this file. The fix should also arrive automatically with July 2026 Patch Tuesday.

Microsoft 365 just got more expensive, and Microsoft cites "continuous innovation" as one reason, but it's actually the AI tax. The price hike kicked in on July 1, 2026, across Business, Enterprise, Frontline, and Government suites. Personal and Education plans are not changing for now. MS 365 Business Basic goes from $6 to $7 per user/month. Business Standard moves from $12.50 to $14. Office 365 E3 goes from $23 to $26. Microsoft 365 E5 rises from $57 to $60. Microsoft 365 F1 jumps 33%, from $2.25 to $3. F3 goes from $8 to $10. Some no-Teams plans rise even more, with F1 without Teams up 43%. Microsoft says customers are getting more security, Intune features, mailbox storage, Copilot Chat enhancements, and Security Copilot in some E5 plans. The company dubs it as continuous innovation, but let’s be honest. This is the AI bill we're paying, much like the increase in RAM prices.
