@BrianSwaw I find it encouraging that more schools are attracting top talent and have been able to finds ways to compete in the portal

**MayDay, Maday, can anyone hear me?**
The NCAA wrestling landscape has shifted, and portal season is officially winding down. The deadline for athletes to declare their intentions to enter the portal has passed, but it may take some time for all names to officially surface.
Reflecting on the past month, I have several observations about the transfer portal that I’ll be sharing intermittently during this quiet phase. But first, let’s dive into some discussion points for the upcoming week.
**1. Is the Transfer Portal Still a Goldmine?**
Has the lucrative nature of the transfer portal diminished? If there truly is significant financial backing for wrestlers, why haven’t we seen more marquee athletes testing the waters? Is it really about preserving relationships, or should they just be looking to assess their fair market value? And speaking of controversial topics, I have some bold opinions about the Stanford situation that I’m looking forward to unpacking on Monday.
**2. What’s Causing the Slow Signings?**
It’s evident that some of the top wrestlers are still sitting unsigned, and it makes you wonder what's behind the delay. The reality is, for elite transfers, the portal has often revolved around financial incentives; meanwhile, for lower to mid-tier grapplers, the focus tends to be on pursuing opportunity, which was the original intent behind the portal's creation.
**3. Changing Strategies Among Major Programs**
Interestingly, powerhouses like Penn State and Oklahoma State, who previously utilized the portal aggressively, appear to be shifting towards investing in recruits instead. This change might affect their involvement in the portal and could lower the overall market value. That said, coaches still report substantial money being disbursed, even with these teams pulling back.
I’ve also noticed that programs like Ohio State, Michigan, Iowa, and Iowa State have been quieter than usual this year. What are your thoughts on this trend?
Thoughts!

This batter hits a towering fly ball down the line.
The umpire called it a homerun.
I say it’s a foul ball.
What do you think? Was it fair or foul?

This batter hit a homerun, watched it, turned around and tossed the bat down at the catcher. Some say the umpire should have ejected the batter. Others say the next batter should have been beaned and the next time they play, the batter who tossed the bat gets beaned. If you were the catcher, what would you do? Would you have handled it differently?

Quick updates.
It was as saucy in Ann Arbor yesterday, and we expect a decision in the next few days. See the picture from the previous post. Chase Saldate hosted Moses Mendoza on his first visit then back to host Him and Sauce.
Garvin staying is no surprise. Iowa had strong interests, but after a power play move by coach Ayers, Knox and Garvin returning to Stanford seemed inevitable. I still don’t see Provo heading back, and I felt the same way about Norman, but his market isn’t as active as Provo’s.
Some other notes:
Rutgers 125lb Ayden Smith is visiting Iowa State. Coach Metcalf is looking to add a second transfer from the portal in less than a week. Iowa State is working hard to fill void left by Castillo.
ILL and WVU are waiting to hear from NCST T Hohman within the next 24-48 hours.
SIUE's first-year HC D Thomas is staying busy in the portal, adding Campbell’s Kendrick Hodge and Juco Champ Henry Dillingham, who pinned his way through this past season.
CMU HC Ben Bennett added a few intriguing pieces yesterday in Manny Rojas and Zeke Seltzer from
Iowa state and Missouri, they should be able to jump right in the lineup for the Chippewas.
