I’m going to add another one to your radar. Pemcol Pies in Ballantyne Park and Sam Levy’s village. Thank me later

#PiePatrol. Pepper steak pie from the @surrey_group ,Marondera Zimbabwe. So far it’s a draw, mangange between Surrey Pies and Oriental Pies of Bulawayo @CityofBulawayo . I just can’t anymore! They are delicious. Surrey wins on the flakiness ,glow and browning, just that edge. Oriental needs to add colour to these pastry. But both pie makers are doing the business. Next up ,I am going to Ballantyne Park,Harare to sample, once again,Pemcol pies. Pemcol is a little pie shop that has gained massive respect in the pie making business. @TeamFuloZim Surrey Pie US$4 #TheKingIsAround #HappinessIsOurBusiness

DID YOU KNOW
The mystic Ndara (also spelled or known as Mhunzamusha or Munzamusha) is the Shona name for the Cape File Snake (or Southern File Snake), a real, non-venomous species scientifically known as Limaformosa capensis (formerly Mehelya capensis).
It is a slender, nocturnal snake (up to about 1.75 m long, with females larger than males) found across Zimbabwe and southern Africa. It has distinctive keeled scales that give it a rough, file-like texture (hence the English name). The snake is harmless to humans—it rarely bites and has no venom—but it is a specialized predator that eats other snakes (including venomous ones like black mambas and puff adders) and has some resistance to their toxins. It is mostly terrestrial but can climb into bushes and trees to hunt. Because of its shy, nocturnal habits, it is genuinely rare to encounter.
Cultural and Mystical Significance in Shona Tradition
Among the Shona people of Zimbabwe, the Ndara holds deep spiritual and folkloric importance and is grouped with other “royal snakes” (such as the python and the double-headed snake shukuviri) that are seen as messengers or manifestations linked to ancestors (vekunyikadzimu or mudzimu).
Key beliefs include:
Omen of misfortune or death: Seeing a Ndara near or inside a home is widely regarded as a bad omen foretelling death, ruin, or serious trouble in the household (e.g., the house “has deteriorated”). It signals that ancestors may be displeased or that taboos have been broken.
Sacred / protected status: It is sometimes called a “sacred snake” and must not be killed or harmed—doing so is believed to bring misfortune to the offender or community. It is treated as a guardian or ancestral emissary.
Spiritual effects: Encounters with such snakes (including Ndara) are interpreted as messages from the spirit world. If the snake remains calm and still, it may indicate ancestral presence or approval; if it behaves violently, it can signal witchcraft, impending death, or illness. Traditional responses often involve elders, snuff offerings, or consultation with a healer.
These beliefs appear in Shona oral tradition, songs (e.g., Zexie Manatsa’s “Nyoka Yendara,” which refers to it as the sacred snake), and ethnographic accounts of Shona animal symbolism.
On the “Flying” Claim and Spiritual Effects
Documented Shona folklore and zoological sources do not describe the Ndara as literally flying or gliding through the air. It is a ground- and tree-climbing snake, not a flying one. Some anecdotal or fringe online claims (e.g., in social media groups) link the name “Ndara” to tall tales of invisible or multi-headed flying serpents, but these appear to be local exaggerations, misattributions, or confusions with myths about other snakes (such as the black mamba, which some Shona stories say “flies through the trees” or crows at night).
The idea that seeing it fly has special spiritual effects seems to be either a very localized variant of the omen tradition, a blending of broader African serpent myths, or a specific personal/cultural telling not reflected in widely available sources. The core mystic power of the Ndara instead lies in its role as a rare, portentous visitor whose mere appearance carries ancestral weight—good or (more often) ill—rather than any aerial display.
In short, the Ndara is a fascinating example of how Shona culture weaves real wildlife into a rich spiritual worldview: a harmless, elusive snake transformed into a powerful symbol of ancestral communication, omens, and the sacredness of nature.

RUFU NDI MADZONGONYEDZE.😭💔💔🕊🕊🕊
At a time when the CHRISTIAN community in Zimbabwe and across the world was celebrating the EASTER HOLIDAYS, I learnt with DEEP SHOCK the HEARTBREAKING news of a road traffic accident in which SIX LIVES were lost in the most painful and UNIMAGINABLE way. Those precious and YOUNG lives lost were all from the MUJURU FAMILY. I was out of the Country when this TRAGEDY happened, and I am even more SADDENED that our dear brother RONALD MUJURU, lost his beloved WIFE and all FIVE of his CHILDREN in this gruesome accident. May their dear souls rest in ETERNAL PEACE. 🕊️
It is the most difficult and UNIMAGINABLE thing for any parent to bury a CHILD, but to bury FIVE CHILDREN and at the same time, bury your WIFE is the MOST HORRENDOUS thing that no human heart should ever be asked to endure. My brother Ronald, NO WORDS can ever console you, nor can they restore what has been taken, and no one can imagine waking up to such a CRUEL REALITY. The loss of an entire family dims the very PURPOSE of waking up each day and WORKING HARD for those we LOVE the most. I share this grief as a Zimbabwean and as your own HOMEBOY from Zabe in Chivhu, which is so close to our Wiltshire Commercial Farms in Gandami where I was born and raised.
I wish to extend my deepest appreciation to our amazing FIRST LADY, Amai Auxillia Mnangagwa, who demonstrated that she is indeed the MOTHER OF THE NATION by personally coming to console you and your family in your DARKEST HOUR. Such a gesture demonstrated the true spirit of UBUNTU that binds us together as Zimbabweans. I also acknowledge with respect our Homeboy and MP the Hon. Minister of Transport Felix Mhona , who also personally paid his CONDOLENCES and attended the funeral. In moments such as these, we are reminded that beyond any DIFFERENCES of opinion or persuasion, we are ONE PEOPLE. We mourn together, we COMFORT each other and we carry one another through SORROW as the Holy Bible commands us in Romans 12:15 and 2 Corinthians 1 3-4.
While I fully respect the PRIVACY and DIGNITY that this deeply painful moment demands, I feel DUTY-BOUND, as your brother and as a patriotic Zimbabwean who understands LOSS, to extend my condolences. In that spirit, and WITHOUT any desire for RECOGNITION or attention, but purely as a TOKEN of LOVE in our African tradition yekupa CHEMA, I say to my dear brother Ronald, please GO AND SEE VICTOR at Exquisite Car Dealership and collect a brand spanking new 2026 Toyota Fortuner 2,8 GD6 valued at USD 80 000. You will also receive CHEMA of US$50,000 in cash as a humble gesture to support you as you PICK UP yourself from this DEVASTATING and PAINFULL loss. This is all from the bottom of my heart and by no means intended to gain any mileage at the expense of your GRIEF, but a small token to lessen the EMOTIONAL PAIN and unimaginable AGONY you are carrying.
My brother RONALD, I am DEEPLY SORRY for your loss, and though nothing can ever heal this wound, I pray that the HOLY SPIRIT becomes your COMFORTER during this difficult time.
May the souls of your beloved wife and children rest in ETERNAL PEACE until we are reunited again in the land of EVERLASTING LIFE…
🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼🕊️🕊🕊
