Speaking to an #NHL Exec…he suggests if a player negotiates a no-trade or a no move clause in their contract but then requests to be traded prior to the expiration of their deal, the NTC should be voided and the team should be allowed to trade the player to any team in the league.

As I say every time this comes up, I love the growth of smaller markets. I think it's vital for the game. The issue is these guys choosing to go there *because* they're small
Also, while NHL fandom/media has its warts, even the biggest markets are tame in an all-sports context

@travisyost Guys should get some protection in the first part of a long term deal. mutual commitment. But maybe NMC and NTC are only valid for the first half of deal (1/2, 2/4, 3/6, etc)? Maybe list of teams diminishes each year (15, 10, 5)? And no one should get protection in the last year

The NHL and PA really need to figure out how to unwind this unrelenting no trade clause stuff.
Cap the numbers, remove full NMCs altogether, whatever it takes. Make the PA whole.

My opinion is that Sergei Bobrovsky can still help a team win a Cup, but it needs to be the right situation.
He needs a strong goalie partner capable of 45% of the starts, to keep him fresh for the postseason when his athleticism pays off the most.
If someone signs him to be a workhorse at 38, it’s probably not going to go well, but in the right circumstances he can absolutely be a difference maker for a championship team.

They're right though. Hockey too. The offside rule exists to prevent cherry picking, not to measure millimetres with million dollar cameras. Any offside that you can't suss out within a few seconds of watching a couple times at full speed probably doesn't matter
