It’s a terrible shame that straight women have been made to feel that orgasming isn’t a priority for them. So many women have said this to me. And whilst I appreciate that having an orgasm won’t make or break a relationship, I do think we’ve done a disservice to women by telling them that their needs don’t matter. Yes, sex can be about cuddling and bonding and emotions, but you also should be able to experience an orgasm. Also, the damage we’ve done by encouraging women to fake orgasms is huge. For both women and men. I understand why it was done - women were only allowed bank accounts in the 1970’s, couldn’t own property and had no way of financing their own lives. Women were taught to fake orgasms because their survival depended on making a man happy. The history of it is grim, but history doesn’t have to stay the repeating itself. It’s why we really do need better education around consent, communication and sex.
