Stupid first tweet deleted itself.
FIRST STOP: Sutton-in-the-Isle
Sutton was the home of 4 people accused of witchcraft in the 1640s: Bridget and John Bonham, Margaret Moore, and William Watson.

Dr Tabitha Stanmore@MagicNotWitches
Sutton was known for its orchards in the early modern period. Indeed, John Bonham confessed to meeting the Devil in the shape of a mole in a Sutton cherry orchard. The relative wealth and stable ground in the village might explain why the 14th C church is so impressive

I'm in the Fens this week for a book talk at @ToppingsEly, and to research the accused witches of 1640s Cambs.
Yesterday I went to Wicken Fen to see what Fenland might have been like pre-drainage. Today I'm going to the villages where accused witches lived. Watch this space!
