Sometimes being an American Catholic under the USCCB feels like being a ten-year-old kid with an alcoholic father who loves you, but has a tendency to beat you in a drunken rage

A large subset of men (probably 30%) were born to fight in a few dozen military engagements per year and spend the rest of the time gambling, drinking, lounging, and generally not doing much of anything For such men, any existence to the contrary feels like intolerable drudgery

I'd like to thank GOP RINOs: Rob Bloxom and Will Morefield for voting with every Virginia Democrat to give unlimited taxpayer-funded home purchases to government bureaucrats.

BREAKING: President Trump says he wants to "drive housing prices up for people who own their homes." "For people that own their homes, we are going to keep them wealthy," Trump says.

Same. It might take a century to smooth out the way it is implemented, but I thank God for Vatican II -- and I believe that once its worst excesses are curtailed, the Church will flourish because of it. Actually reading the documents changed my mind about this.

Gavin Wax is a reminder that under no circumstances should we work with or trust jews. Unless a Jewish person genuinely converts to Catholicism, they should be treated with suspicion and regarded as a fifth column to our mission.

@dissidentwest Maybe they think it will get more people to join the Catholic church, but it really does the opposite.

You know what Charlie criticized a lot more than Israel? Islam. There are some very powerful people and governments who are invested in the Islamification of the West. So if we’re just asking questions… why not these questions?

@FischerKing64 “To recapitulate, [St.] Paul teaches not the resurrection of physical bodies but the resurrection of persons, and this not in the return of the “fleshly body”, that is, the biological structure, an idea which he expressly describes as impossible” (p277 1970 edition)

@FischerKing64 “the real heart of faith in resurrection does not consist at all in the idea of the restoration of the body, to which we have reduced it in our thinking; such is the case even though this is the pictorial image used throughout the Bible” (p270)

If people are sincere in their interest of Catholicism, I would recommend Ratzinger’s book Introduction to Christianity. Also listening to Palestrina masses, the Beethoven Mass in C Major, and attending traditional mass - Latin and vernacular, just not the ones where they take out a guitar and avoid incense. This tradition isn’t dead reading of scripture and whitewashed walls - it isnt Calvinism - and it’s not about making $$. Catholicism engages the senses and recognizes authority beyond the Bible (which you should also know if you want to go this path). It’s a community that is local and hierarchical, and a way of life that is mostly bastardized on social media - which is not a good medium for religious discussion whether you are pro or con. I just do this post because I see this discourse so often on here, mostly avoid it, but here are a few suggestions.

Horrific. The whole thing. Pope Leo blesses a block of ice and then stands there while these communist freaks do some kind of weird pagan Earth worshipping hippy ritual. The leader of the Catholic Church shouldn’t be anywhere near this nonsense. What the hell are we doing here

This thing of celebrities championing criminals goes back a long way. These two men are the novelist William Styron and murderer Benjamin Reid. Reid was on death row for beating a woman to death with a hammer during a 1957 robbery. Styron mentored him in jail, and successfully worked to get his death sentence commuted. Styron kept working on his behalf, and even managed to help him get parole in 1970 - Styron even offered up his own home for Reid's halfway house. Unfortunately, shortly before his release, Reid escaped a prison work detail, and promptly abducted and raped a woman, and held her hostage with her two children before police captured him and sent him back to prison. Death penalty would have spared that woman this experience. Styron's generosity was a little misplaced.
