She ended our relationship after four years. Not because I cheated. Not because we were toxic. Not because we stopped loving each other. Her exact words were: "I've been praying, and I don't have peace about marrying you." That was it. I was devastated. But I respected her decision. You can't exactly argue with someone's conviction. So I let her go. Six months later, she got engaged. To someone else. That part nearly broke me. Because suddenly all the "I need time" and "I'm seeking God" started sounding different. People told me to move on. So I did. Or at least I tried. Two years passed. Then one evening, I received a message. From her. "I owe you an apology." We met. And what she told me completely changed the story. The man she left me for had abandoned her three months after their wedding. According to her, the marriage was filled with things she never saw coming. Then she looked at me and said: "The peace I thought I had wasn't God's voice." I stayed quiet. Then she added: "It was fear." Fear? Fear of what? Her answer shocked me. "You were kind." "You were consistent." "You wanted marriage." "And deep down, I wasn't sure I deserved that kind of love." I didn't know what to say. Then came the part that still divides everyone who hears this story. She asked if we could try again. My family said no. My friends said no. Even some people in church said no. But here's the problem... I still loved her. So now I'm the one praying. And the question that keeps me awake is this: If someone leaves you because they misread fear as God's direction... should they get a second chance? Or is returning only an option when the alternative failed?
