A wonderful evening at @WitneyMuseum celebrating their recent National Lottery grant, learning about Witney’s gold medal-winning Olympian(!), and trying on a rather natty poncho.
What a fantastic resource to have on our doorstep - it’s open until the end of Oct; check it out!

@henryspil @DrillHalls @SOFOtrust @OxonMRC @5OBLI @Taff_Gillingham @ProfPeterDoyle We think around 1890. It is thought that they are about to march to the railway station prior to embarking for their annual summer camp.

@WitneyMuseum @DrillHalls @SOFOtrust @OxonMRC @5OBLI That’s a fantastic picture of the OBLI reserves on parade. Do you know the date? cc @Taff_Gillingham @ProfPeterDoyle

Langdale Hall, Witney. Built 1927 as a drill hall for the local territorial detachment of the Ox & Bucks Light Infantry. Now owned by the town council and used as a public hall and function rooms #Witney #History @DrillHalls

@henryspil @DrillHalls @SOFOtrust @OxonMRC @5OBLI Article in Bugle & Sabre -"Although the Corn Exchange seems to have been used for this purpose at different times, The Witney Gazette suggests that there was also a "Drill Hall" in Marlborough Lane". "It was generally agreed that the Marlborough Lane premises were too small.."

@henryspil @DrillHalls @WitneyMuseum @OxonMRC @5OBLI Trying to find a few more details, working back, a May 1927 Journal notes 'Work on the drill hall at Witney is steadily progressing-the roof being already on; it is
possible that the hall will be completed in some six weeks time.'
