As I stood there, soaking wet with all this stuff being thrown at me, I remember thinking, “What the f*ck am I doing with my life?” Four of us, in our mid-thirties, still chasing a dream. Ten years ago today, we were shooting the video for Plant The Seed, the fifth single from Cavalcade. A whole group of us had hauled all our gear down to this spot on a Sunday in October. The plan was to have clouds of powdered paint exploding around us (before Coldplay did it, by the way), but being next to a waterfall meant everything just turned to mush and it felt like it was turning into a bit of a disaster. Filming a music video is a ridiculous thing at the best of times if you think about it too much, but this one felt especially weird. As I crouched there having paint scrubbed off me, I remember thinking—maybe it’s time to call it a day and concentrate on the day job. There have been plenty of moments like that over the years. Back then we were touring pubs, often playing to about fifty people if we were lucky. But deep down, we always believed in what we were doing, we loved what we we were creating and believed in the songs. We always thought the more people we could get in front of, the more we’d win people over. I’m glad we stuck with it. We went on to have some incredible adventures, and our music took us all over Europe. This song in particular got picked up by a radio station in Dublin called TXFM and they played it non stop. Our first decent sized sold out show outside of Manchester soon followed and the gig was proper buzzing. It was the first time we’d stayed back and signed stuff and had photos with fans - it felt like we were The Beatles 😆 Just goes to show, you don’t know what’s round the corner. It’s great looking back on stuff like that and feeling glad you kept the faith. Here we are ten years on, still out there chasing the dream. See you in December 😆
