How consistent are second and third options this season? 📊 I looked at each team’s 2nd and 3rd leading scorers and compared their game-to-game consistency in both points and TS%. Julius Randle ranks among the most consistent offensive players in that group. Jaden is on the other end of the spectrum. Consistency doesn’t equal quality, but it does highlight the concerns with Jaden. His scoring totals fluctuate, and so does his efficiency (TS%). That suggests the swings aren’t just about lower volume on certain nights, but also streaky shooting. Randle has just one game under 10 points all season, the best mark in this group. Jaden has 16 such games, nearly a quarter of his season. Jaden shows real flashes. Some nights he looks unstoppable and like one of the team’s best offensive options. Other nights, he fades out of the game. Chart below shows points consistency (measured by coefficient of variation) vs TS% consistency (measured by standard deviation).

Julius Randle was a bright spot vs OKC with 32 PTS. But the defense also stood out. Held his man to a team best 3/16 (18.8%) DFG, much of it vs SGA. Was it his offense fueling his defensive motor? Sign of a change or just an OKC off-night?

@MCDANlELS @jasonmgood Good stuff. I did the same thing but with slightly different filters. I did the top 100 usage% players (minimum 1,000 minutes). Also pro tip, if you click export the image looks a lot better to share.
