"At 35 weeks I lost the baby and my womb. I ended up losing 3 litres of blood and needed an emergency hysterectomy. This is what can happen." This was a UK surrogacy arrangement in a family and the woman thought she was helping. This woman now considers herself lucky to be alive.

We’re guessing that there are no processes for ‘informed consent’ & Nuvara #surrogacy’s “safe, confidential and respectful journey” focuses much more on the commissioning parents than it does for the actual human being growing another human being. Maybe our Q was too invasive?

@omo_bosinu_ola What are your processes for ‘informed consent’?

@omo_bosinu_ola @WombsNotForRent This practice is exploiting young women and violates the child rights law. Find something more credible to do as a means of income.

@omo_bosinu_ola Happy to ask questions. What law applies to the contracts you issue, is it business or property law?

@WombsNotForRent Good morning and thanks for the question. Nigeria does not yet have a dedicated surrogacy law, which is why reputable programs rely on detailed legal agreements and professional oversight. All the best.

Where having a baby in exchange for money is possible, (including the UK under the so-called ‘friendship first’, ‘altruistic’ model) there will always be vulnerable women wanting to monetise their bodies so they can survive and support their families. This is #surrogacy.

@omo_bosinu_ola Are you speaking of biological connections (birth) or genetic connections (donated gametes)? What is the law around donor conception where you practice #surrogacy, are those who provide gametes the legal parents?

@WombsNotForRent Ok.... Well, epigenetics and microchimerism are real but biological connection isn't the same as parental right, and it's not an argument against surrogacy.

@WombsNotForRent It's an argument for informed consent, medical care, and respecting the surrogate as a full partner in the process. Ethical surrogacy already accounts for this. ✌️

@WombsNotForRent Consent is ongoing, not one-time. Surrogates can withdraw before embryo transfer, no penalty, with independent legal counsel and psych screening from day one so it's fully informed. That's the standard we hold ourselves to ma/sir. Peace ✌️

@Nickinoosue22 @according2_taz My personal opinion from the start has been this was a huge missed opportunity for the Harkles. They could have leaned into surrogacy as an issue to support and champion, and done some good work about non-traditional kids being valued and loved. Instead, they chose deception.

Ok! I am calmer today, I have had sleep and less sun and tarmac and I have had some time process this Family Reunion. The King, who is 77 and has cancer, finally got to see his grandchildren after 4 years. I see nothing wrong in that and I hope it bought him some happiness. The children are completely innocent of their parents actions. I also believe Queen Camilla being there, wasn't just to protect the King from manipulation or stress but also as a power play. Harry has trashed and vilified Camilla and he had to sit opposite her, he had to face her throughout this meeting. In a way, it's the King saying, if you want to see me, you respect my wife. That's some serious humble pie right there. Also, Harry and Meghan by attending, have made all their complaints look completely moot. They have just proved that they can sneak in and out of the Country unseen, that they can go to a Royal residence, safely and quietly and again totally unseen. They now can't use the children visiting as an excuse to demand extra protection. Now as for Meghan going, well, she never got her apology or the accountability, both she and Harry DEMANDED for years, from the Royal Family. Harry and Meghan didn’t get anything that they wanted or demanded and they have just publicly crawled back on their bellies. It shows their desperation. CHECK MATE. The King got to see his grandchildren so it's a win for him and now if anything does get leaked regarding the meeting, it can only come from them and there will be no push back if they try to play victim if the King refuses to see them again. I do not think the King is being weak or soft, I think he’s called their bluff. It was his invite, his rules, his home. As for Catherine and Prince William, I believe that they were told and have a mutual understanding with the King. It's his choice, but they are not touching that, with a ten foot barge pole.

So,can a surrogate claim your baby? With the right advocate. The right legal framework. The right screening. The right contract. No. She cannot. And at Nuvara Surrogacy Advocates She will not.

But I thought we weren't allowed to use slippery slope arguments??? "While supporters frame the effort as part of a broader push to address birthright citizenship and national security concerns, fertility specialists and surrogacy advocates say international clients account for only a small share of Texas surrogacy cases. They worry the focus on foreign nationals could become the first step toward broader restrictions on surrogacy and in vitro fertilization, or IVF, Texas Tribune reported." usatoday.com/story/news/nat…
