Wood Mackenzie was proud to attend as the official Knowledge Partner at the Namibia International Energy Conference this week. Our experts, Ian Thom, Research Director, and Vincenza Papaleo, Principal Analyst, delivered insights on two critical topics: 🔹The Namibia story: cracking the subsurface code, proving the play, and navigating to first oil 🔹Namibia's Natural Gas Opportunity: Infrastruction, markets and strategic value It was fantastic to connect with so many industry leaders and experts throughout the event. We look forward to continuing these important conversations soon.

A 300 billion barrel supply gap is emerging. And high impact exploration is back at the centre of upstream strategy. In the latest Edge, we examine why majors and national oil companies are leaning into frontier exploration, and where value is really being created. Key insights include: - Production from existing fields could fall nearly 40% between 2025 and 2040 - Exploration created US$54 billion in value between 2021 and 2025, rising to US$120 billion at US$85 per barrel - Ultra deepwater plays are driving the highest value discoveries - A small group of companies have the capability and risk appetite to operate at scale - Early 2026 results highlight the continued risk, with several high profile wells coming up dry Exploration is no longer just about replacing volumes. It is about finding advantaged barrels in a more competitive and cost sensitive system. The full analysis is available here: okt.to/XDUVyZ Do you see frontier exploration as essential to future supply, or an increasingly risky bet?

Wood Mackenzie infrared monitoring detected a fire at the Geelong refinery in Australia between 23:08 and 00:38 local time (AEST, UK+9). The incident was reported to have occurred at gasoline‑related units within the refinery.   Understanding which units may be affected is critical in assessing potential downstream impacts. If the alkylation unit were impacted, it supplies components representing just over 10% of the refinery’s gasoline output. A loss of alkylate, a high‑quality gasoline blending component, would likely constrain the refinery’s ability to produce on‑spec premium gasoline. The refinery should be able to continue operating without the alkylation unit, subject to its ability to manage a materially higher LPG output.   For subscribers, this combination of early incident detection and unit‑level operational insight supports faster, more informed assessment of refinery disruptions during periods of tight regional supply, often ahead of official updates.   Our proprietary infrared intelligence delivers independent observation of refinery operations across the APAC region and globally, helping customers stay informed when operational change matters. Ongoing success of US shale all but ended global unconventional exploration in the early 2010s. International shale explorers pivoted to the Permian for lower-risk growth. But the maturation of US shale plays is pushing E&Ps to look afresh at overseas opportunities.     Our latest Horizons delves into the potential of ‘global shale 2.0’, the portfolio shifts and matured exploration mindset that could make it a success – and ranks the top projects that could be transformative for host countries and regional supply dynamics.  Read it now: okt.to/GLkWOa

Belgium and Netherlands markets face dramatic transformation by 2030; the window to optimise revenue stacks before cannibalisation is measured in months, not years. Battery investors who understand saturation timing ahead of the market secure premium exits and redeploy capital before peers recognise the opportunity. Time your battery investments and exits with confidence - forecast exactly when ancillary revenue opportunities peak and when saturation erodes returns in Belgium and Netherlands. Navigate power market complexity with interconnected intelligence—unified fundamentals modeling, supply chain costs, grid congestion data, and policy pulse across the entire energy value chain. Our Lens platform provides the foundational market intelligence surrounding ancillary revenues - interconnecting dispatch modelling, wholesale price forecasts, grid congestion impacts, renewable penetration trajectories, and BESS supply chain costs. It ensures ancillary revenue assumptions align with broader market fundamentals and energy transition pathways and much much more.
