watched a guy at starbucks negotiate his coffee price down from $6.50 to $2 barista looked confused as fuck but gave it to him here's the unhinged psychology he used that actually works on any transaction: he walks up, orders a grande latte cashier: "$6.50" him: "I'll give you $2" cashier laughs, thinks he's joking him: pulls out exactly $2 in cash, places it on counter, doesn't move awkward 8 second silence cashier looks around, no manager nearby him: "i come here every day, you know me. $2 is what i got today" another 5 seconds of silence cashier takes the $2, makes the latte i asked him after why tf that worked "most people negotiate with words. i negotiate with silence and commitment. the $2 on the counter says i'm serious. the silence forces them to make a decision. most people break first." tried this at chipotle yesterday got kicked out but the principle is insane silence + commitment > logical arguments everyone's so scared of 3 seconds of awkward silence they'll give you anything to end it
