Then they had to spin all this wool into thread. And no spinning wheels! The technology of the time was a drop spindle. They gathered 10 expert hand spinners and asked them to time themselves. It took 11 hours to spin 50 grams (about 1.75 oz). For all that wool, that's 544 hours.

I have been bemoaning the impending demise of Twitter for months, but I haven't had the energy to try any of the supposed replacements. But yesterday I tried Threads, and it is currently fun, which seems promising.
It feels like Twitter of old.

@cefryber I'm pondering spinning a whole pound on my spindle, and knit it up before year's end, but the main thing holding me back is, I'm scared I won't come close.

@cefryber Yeah, I've been using my spindle daily for several weeks now, and I don't remember exactly how much I've spun in that time, but it's well less than 8 ounces! My singles sound like they may be finer than yours, but still in the same realm.

@Wordlily The library has playaways but you’re limited to what titles they have. There’s always a Kindle but that’s probably too much like a phone.

Is there such a thing as a pocket-portable device that can get library audiobooks (so, Libby and hoopla) but is not a phone?
