Carbon calculators usually focus on individual choices: what you eat, how you travel, how you power your home. @WRIClimate’s new calculator is different. It’s designed for decision-makers whose choices affect large numbers of people, from policymakers and city planners to companies and large institutions. Try it: go.wri.org/climate-calcul…

🔥🌳Nearly 1/2 of all forests globally are now more vulnerable to drought than they were before the turn of the century. 🌡️Rising temperatures are making many regions hotter and drier, lengthening fire seasons and increasing fire intensity, particularly in boreal regions like Canada and Russia. If current trends continue, forests risk shifting from a carbon sink to a carbon source. Learn more: go.wri.org/wildfire-recov…

☀️The sun can’t be embargoed. 🌬️The wind can't be closed like a shipping lane. 🔋Clean energy can make countries more secure and less exposed to global conflict. ⁉️So why are governments still underestimating their strategic value?➡️ go.wri.org/irannews-x

🔥For most of human history, fire was a tool to be wielded with knowledge, precision and care — not an enemy to be suppressed. Recovering control will require learning from the past while confronting the political choices of the present. Learn more about the paths forward➡️ go.wri.org/fire-control-x

🌊Ocean-based climate solutions could potentially exceed one-third of the total emissions reductions needed to meet global climate goals. But perhaps even more compelling is the wide range of co-benefits that come with them: ⛈️Protecting coastal communities from storms 👔Providing jobs 🐟Harboring wildlife 🍽️Improving food security Watch the full video to learn more: youtu.be/EZzeXGA5Jvs

🌡️🥵Deadly heat waves have become the new norm in recent years for Europe, the world’s fastest-warming continent. With air conditioning in only 20% of the Europe’s buildings, city leaders face a pressing dilemma: how to keep people cool without worsening the climate crisis driving rising temperatures in the first place. The cycle of rising heat, greater demand for cooling and growing emissions can be broken. Here, we look at data on Europe’s rising urban heat and explore how cities can adapt➡️ go.wri.org/heat-air-dilem…

Urban infrastructure can be one of the most powerful tools to keep people cool, without relying on energy-hungry air conditioning🧊😎 🔑The key is focusing on "surface infrastructure". Cities around the world are showing that seemingly simple changes to surfaces, like painting roofs white or planting trees, can have a surprisingly big impact on temperatures. #WRIExplains how to cool cities➡️ go.wri.org/cooling-cities

Kelp forests are among the most diverse habitats on Earth. But climate change, poor water quality and overfishing have damaged up to 60% of them in the last 50 years. We look at what’s at stake and how to protect the ocean’s kelp 👉 bit.ly/4vHzuh8

🔌🪫Most EV batteries are retired at ~70–80% capacity, leaving a chunk of usable energy. This creates a clear second stage in the battery lifecycle, where most value is lost. The structure and governance will determine whether that can change 👉 go.wri.org/ev-second-life…

What can happen when temperatures rise in your city? Here are a few key impacts👇🌡️ While climate treaties trade in the language of degrees, it can be hard to imagine what people are likely to experience in their own neighborhood. To help fill in the picture, we analyzed dozens of climate models to discover how 1.5 and 3 degrees C of global warming might affect your city: go.wri.org/heat-city-tw

Brazil, India and Indonesia have made important strides in climate adaptation planning. But turning national strategies into effective local action remains a major challenge. New research from @WRIBrasil, @WRIIndia and @WRIIndonesia explores why, highlighting the need for vertical integration. Explore the key findings: bit.ly/4f8juhH

☀️The same afternoon can feel very different depending on where you are. Take a textile business in Surat, India, for example. On June 22, while the "feels like" temperature outdoors was 37°C, conditions on the production floor felt like 55°C. Near machines, it was around 75°C. @WRIIndia's findings highlight how workplace heat is shaped not only by outdoor weather, but also by machinery, humidity, ventilation and design: bit.ly/4wrFr1U
