@World_of_Who Well, I kicked off our hot take of The Power of the Doctor by lamenting it's Marvel-esque action sequence that kicked things off, so maybe the way you're interpreting my desire for better effects and things isn't quite in the way you might think I mean it :) Good ep suggestion!

Some really emotional views re: the ABC no longer having new #DoctorWho. Taken to the nth degree many arguments seem to suggest the BBC should only be allowed to sell the show to the ABC in this market. A strange POV; the show is the BBCs product. It can do what it likes with it.

@World_of_Who As a fan for decades, I understand that. At the same time, it's not 1973 and more money turns into better location shoots, it becomes better special effects. And perhaps beyond all that, it opens the spin-offs box again. They didn't register 'Whoniverse' as company for nothing ;)

@theDWshow Maybe. Time will tell. Off topic, but I’ve never found “big” or “epic” Who particularly good. The best has always been the smaller scale, tightly written and creative driven stories. Base under siege style all the way! 👌Maybe a topic for your show: Epic Doctor Who, does it work?

@World_of_Who So Doctor Who was essentially on life support - and I'm not sure how many fans really understand that - which is why the move to Bad Wolf, and it cutting some extraordinary deals, is going to be just great for the series. Great production team + money = big result.

@theDWshow I get all that. I just don’t think more/lots of money will equal to better, more and even sustainable Who. The best Who has always been done on a limited budget. Always .

@World_of_Who Also look to the defunding of the BBC as one of the reasons. Yes, the show taking a dive in the ratings since the Capaldi era doesn't help confidence, but it's all related. If you don't have a lot of spare cash AND don't have confidence, you're not going to fund something.

@theDWshow It sure needs money. And it’s been able to get it in the past. But just like in the mid-late 80s, the show has lost its way, and so confidence at the BBC has been shaken up. They may be a reluctantance to throw money at it, though RTD may change that.

@World_of_Who Of course the show needs to be well written. Writing and cash aren't mutually exclusive. But if you think the show dropping to 10 eps a series for S11 & S12 (before 6 for S13 but that was partly Covid), wasn't a budgetary thing, I have a bridge to sell you. The show needs money.

@theDWshow We’ll have to agree to disagree. But one thing’s for certain: this “money” that is needed isn’t what will keep the show going. Good writing is what is really needed. The past few years are a testament to that.

@World_of_Who I think the reality is that the money Disney put on the table would be significantly less - if any - for a non-exclusive deal. And what the show needed is money. They've done what's needed to secure it and, in the process, a real future for thew show. That's absolutely huge.
