I'll explain the hate Irish Americans get. In Ireland our media, entertainment and academic class is overwhelmingly left wing. I don't mean liberal democrat left wing, I mean socialist revolutionary left wing who call our center left government "Far right". This class is wholly captured by American, intersectional victimhood politics. This narrative has turned being an oppressed group into the highest form of social currency. So to cash in on this, they have taken the moral purity and cultural reverence that has been given to blacks, immigrants, indigenous, gays etc in America and cast that cloak upon themselves. They may hold the original sin of whiteness but they were also a histocrically oppressed people. So they use this loophole to separate themselves from evil, coloniser Europeans. They are essentially trying to say "I'm not like those other White people". They are engaging in the most embarrassing form of ethnic "Pick-meism". Irish Americans contradict this ideology however, they are successful, tough, hard working, unapologetic, and shamelessly nationalistic for both the USA and Ireland. They could have taken the victim card as immigrants from a colonised, oppressed, starved people and used it as an excuse for their own failure. But instead they rejected it and became great. For a leftist this is the greatest betrayal of all. They're whole ideology is about appealing to victimhood and using it drag everyone down to the lowest level possible so we can all have an equal share in their misery and self hatred. It doesn't matter that Irish Americans, funded our Revolutions and without them we never would have gained independence, it doesn't matter that they funded the IRA throughout the entirety of the Troubles, it doesn't matter that they may be 100% ethnically Irish Catholics and want to preserve their homeland and peoples identity. They fall afoul of leftist victimology so they are cast out. This is why Obama is considered Irish and celebrated, not because of his ancestry but because his ideology and identity conforms to their dogma. That's why a Nigerian or Indian fresh off the boat who will spend their life trying to transform your nation to be more like their homeland is more Irish to them than Seamus O'Toole born in Boston who visits the homeland every year and reads Irish history and literature for fun. If you're an Irish American reading this remember, that just like your country, the media, entertainment, and academic class are only a small fraction of the population who have massively disproportionate influence. The vast majority of us love our American cousins and greatly appreciate all you have done to help guide this country through its most turbulent times.
