The cruelty on here...wow. The use of AI and memes taking the place of people's sincere words and thoughts... The disrespect, the personal attacks, the elitism and conceit... I'm okay with having faded into the background and now finding that exit door.

Today, I’m disappointed in a lot of the women in poker. I have a ton of respect for each of you. You have powerful voices & represent well for the poker community, but today I’ve only seen a lot of disrespectful shade throwing & pettiness. Please do better. @WPT @ClubWPTGold

@SaraSmartist @PokerListings I'm not clear on how AI refines an idea but okay. I've never used it, nor had the privilege of research assistant. I guess I'm just surprised that an op-ed is not something that comes directly from the heart & soul.

@WriterJen @PokerListings I write my own work. I use AI the same way writers use editors, grammar tools, or research assistants. It can be used to refine ideas, not replace them. The perspective, arguments, and voice in the piece are mine.

Thank you @PokerListings for giving my most recent hard-hitting article a home. I won a poker tournament!!!!!! 🍍🥳🍍 Editing, playing, AND studying while balancing a very full life of friends and family is not easy. But I’ve been putting a lot of work into my game behind the scenes because I really want to get better and see some results. When you play tournaments, the grind is real so this win is incredibly emotional for me because it really just proves that with a lot of hard work and a little luck, anything can happen. Thank you to my support system that never left from the second the FT started. I love and appreciate all of you so much. Oh yeah and one more thing- PINEAPPPLLLLEEEEE!!!!!! 😆💕 #APTC2025

I'm ending my dad's life today. Four days ago, he was admitted to the hospital. He suffered a cardiac arrest, doctors discovered incurable blood cancer, and then almost all brain function ceased. He isn't breathing on his own. My dad abused my mom for years. He abused my aunt. He raised me in a cult, stole my identity, and ruined our credit. He stole every last cent from my dementia-suffering grandpa. He asked me to lie to a judge for him and has more DUIs than I even know. He was on the losing end of a not-well-enough-hidden battle with alcohol for 40+ years. Despite all of that, I choose to remember the good I can find today. My dad never figured out life. His experience in this world pained me as I know it did him. I am who I am because of him in good and bad ways. Twitter drama has never felt more inconsequential than it has this week. Treasure the relationships you have. Life is fleeting and fugitive. Try not to bring pain to those who love you. I write this selfishly, for catharsis and expression. I won't respond to comments today, but I will read them as I'm able. With love and thanks.

There's a lot of discourse about ClubWPTGold's recent retweet of Sashimi's post of a woman twerking on a poker table, where Sashimi stated "American poker is like this" in her post and ClubWPTGold quote retweeted the video and, frankly, dunked on their own player pool by saying "GTO players took this from us." Honestly, I've been and sometimes am that woman having fun in the original video. I've been and sometimes still am the one splashing chips at a friend having a blast. I've also been hypocritical and have judged people for things I myself have done in the past. We're all human and multifaceted. I've read a lot of people's diverse reactions and appreciate the discourse as a new content creator and woman in this space. I don't mind the original video, Sashimi's tweets, or even ClubWPTGold's retweet, because content creators are going to try new things and some things will miss the mark. Sometimes, spectacularly. I do take issue with people in positions of power (here, Doug) dilluting the issues involved to a promotional joke for WPT and "promis[ing] to return to clips of girls twerking." Come on, man. Sashimi may be right at least about the state of American poker's discourse if we: 1. reduce grown women who are having a ton of fun at a poker night to "girls twerking" and 2. dig into women disporportionality when they (and men) say, "This isn't what I want the future of poker to look like." Food for thought. Be kind and run good.

Hey everyone I just to apologize on behalf of WPT for our most recent post. I dont run the wpt social accounts, but as a WPT ambassador I feel like I have to say something. I know the goal of social media is to create reach. Its the game we have to play. But theres a point where it steps over the line in a way that upsets people. There are some things we just dont want to open up twitter and have to look at. I am very sorry we just tweeted about our upcoming Mystery Quest promotion. We promise to return to clips of girls twerking.

@berkey11 @WriterJen If a female creates 100 pieces of content and one of them is her on a beach, is she really using sex to build a brand? Semi-hypothetical question without looking deep into content ratios, but from what I've seen it's almost always fun/poker related content she puts out

Abby is a fresh face with fresh content in poker, always trying new things with humor & open eyes & willingness to learn. She posts a strong opinion, tho, & she gets wildly attacked, far more so than the original ClubWPT Gold company post. 🤦‍♀️
Abby Merk@abbypoker_

another unbelievably disappointing post from clubwpt gold. part of having a platform is knowing how to use it. what could possibly have been the point of this except for to get clicks by demeaning women?? “gto players took this from us” as if this is what you WANT TO SEE WOMEN

@RobKuhn_ @berkey11 Picture 1: she's feeling cute & takes a selfie. Picture 2: she's doing a joke video. She's also not the World Poker Tour, a global brand with 25 years of history in the biz that's supposed to be all-inclusive. What is your point?

@berkey11 I'm sorry, Matt, but it's in no way the same thing as ClubWPT posting that video. The only reason Abby doing jumping jacks is "sexualized" is because she has breasts. And she's aware of how that looks, so she's mostly shielded. I really don't see the comparison.

It's sexualizing her and exploiting that for clicks, which I think is the strongest argument against the video Sashimi posted. The fact that Stapes held up a jacket to dampen the "girls on trampolines" aspect of this segment should be a clear signal that it's cringe. Abby has full autonomy, she chose to partake. I've played the show no one has to do the things on the wheel, Luiz said fuck off when he spun eat hot sauce. These double standards are what make it so hard for people to even understand the overarching message, let alone support it.

@berkey11 She's doing half jumping jacks, mostly covered by Stapes' jacket, because it's what she agreed to do as a part of the game. How is this the same as the ClubWPT video?

@berkey11 For one, yes, the woman didn't post it herself. Two, she's not mimicking an exotic dancer, she's flailing... let's just say it's not art. Three, I don't care what people do at their home games, but for a well-respected brand to RT it is shameful, IMO.

I think it's important to distinguish what's so abhorrent about the video. Is it bc the girl twerking isn't the one who posted it? Is it bc it mimics an exotic dancer? Is it bc she potentially is an exotic dancer? I'm just not sure what's so pearl clutching. It's overly sexual, sure, but why do we care? I've seen plenty of poker influencers post similar twerking videos wearing far less as an expression of their sexuality and we don't bat an eye (nor should we imo).
