GEOFFREY HILL Selected Poems, The Triumph of Love @yaleuniversitypress Define your terms! Hill contextualizes a term of art and doing so makes concrete a universal in light of a complex of theological terms themselves brilliantly alive on their own horizon, shared by Hopkins.

ROO BORSON Short Journey Upriver toward Oishida 2004 Roo Borson deserves an American audience; she’s celebrated in Canada. The answer may lie in the depth of her awareness of Chinese classics and Basho. The inner form of Basho’s hybrid haibun and the contextual realism to a T.

@TomDEvelyn @wipfandstock The phrase “roots like talons” transforms a thought I had passing a root in the pavement today. Thank you for something breathable in these toxic times.

CHRISTIAN WIMAN in The Turning Aside, ed.Martin ⁦@wipfandstock⁩ Wiman is a popular religious poet. Here the “time’s toxins” —the climate crisis—“leaches meaning” from life. Yet the green is restored as he acknowledged its appearance in “a seed of belief.” A magic metaphor!

Wittgenstein and the reader. From Fergus Kerr, Religion After Wittgenstein, p. 51. Does this make you willing to read W or make you exasperated?

The night halls of rehab can echo with nameless cries. As one who has raged in fury, I get why on reflection metaphor applies: identity doubles incoherently yet necessarily. One has no choice: one stuns oneself into otherness. As Z points out there’s no music in it.

@TomDEvelyn This emptying of self (S.H.) is it eastern, western or not so simply othering? Does the Holy Spirit resonate upon filling? A child snoring into adolescence ebbs and flows simultaneously. I marvel. found in the mystery, a universe next door

Physical Therapy: attunement of the body to its given task. We do all manner of mindless routines stretching and sharpening faculties needed for return to life. We may catch the expression of the emptiness of things in a face committed to the routine, as in a mirror. W&M.
