I’ve been in lines to get pokemon cards before with the same scalper that by chance was next to me every time. Maybe 3 times total? (I stopped doing this, I’m content with getting Perfect Order for my kid at a dollar store at this point lol) Each time he would complain to me how he didn’t know how he’d be able to afford rent because he wasn’t pushing the product as much or had a harder time getting said product. I’d imagine gas prices increasing are probably not helping either. I kid you not, this scalper doesn’t sell stuff on eBay either. He goes to flea markets to do it. He also had no shame about this, he’d grab all the ETBs and while I was content at self checkout getting a couple of booster bundles, he would try to convince me to come see him at the flea market to sell me the stuff he had just gotten. Based on what he told me, his wife works a real job. How he is still married baffles me because you can tell the guy just doesn’t take care of himself, likely due to “reselling” not having healthcare plans. Standing next to him is actual torture because his teeth are so disgusting and the smell is outrageously bad. But to address the original question: I think in most cases it’s far below minimum wage with both gas being used and the time spent waiting in lines. Really think about it: A guy waits in line for 5 hours at Target that has a limit after using gas to get there and back. That is not minimum wage. Like at all. You should hear these guys on well known release dates like when Sam’s Club happens. They always have a limit of 2 per person right? They will drive HOURS away to go to other Sam’s Clubs to get 2 more. For example, the closest other one to us is 2 hours away. Scalpers suck but at least a good chunk of them are living shitty life’s so I guess karma at least comes through there. #Pokemon
