To take a phrase from a friend, welcome to our second birth! Weekly Shogakukan Edition is now Strict Algorithm LLC. As noted on the quoted tweet, not much will change (not even the @) --this is to be legally distinct from Shogakukan. We'll still be doing threads, contests, and translations as always. Shogakukan is still going to be the key focus, *but* with this new name the hope is going forward we'll be applying our talents to J-culture/media of all kinds and publishers! Gosho Aoyama has remarked on Wakana Yamazaki’s passing: “It saddens me greatly that her gentle, calming voice that just felt like it’d always be there is now gone.” This report also confirms that Akemi Okamura will take over the role. Source ytv.co.jp/conan/pdf/cona…

We are extremely sad to report that voice actress Wakana Yamazaki passed away April 18th from an unspecified sickness. She was 61. She was chiefly known for playing Ran Mouri in Detective Conan, but also played Nojiko in ONE PIECE, Kiyomaro’s mother in Gash Bell, and Maria and Shoryuuki in Ghost Sweeper Mikami. Akemi Okamura currently plays Ran in the Conan anime. We send our condolences to her loved ones in their time of grief.

A new series with character designs by Akira (Katekyo Hitman Reborn) entitled Horo Beat will begin in Corocoro issue #6 out May 15th. The series described as a “Tag Team battle” will be written by Shigenobu Matsumoto with assistance by Tsutomu Sato, and drawn by Akira Tsuruta.

Atsu Benino, author of “Hokago Vocaken De” has revealed that due to being pregnant with twins, the series has been on break frequently. They reassure readers that they are trying to resume a weekly pace while keeping their current condition in mind. We’d like to extend our congratulations to them and their growing family!

We’re late to this one, but today is Corocoro’s birthday!! 🎁 🎉 The Shogakukan children’s magazine was first published May 15 1977, and the home of Doraemon, Super Mario-kun and others. Now it’s known for being the home of Pokemon and series such as Fate Rewinder and Black Channel!
