Delays to Labour’s defence spending plan are putting billions of pounds of investment in the Royal Air Force at risk. AirTanker, which maintains the RAF’s fleet of 14 Voyager planes, said it “stands ready to invest” up to £2bn for upgrades to the aircraft, which refuel the UK’s F-35B stealth jets and Typhoon interceptors now defending the Gulf from Iranian drone attack. However, the company is concerned about delays to the Government’s defence investment plan (DIP), which was due to be published in the autumn and has left Britain’s military industry “bleeding cash”. “Decisions on critical capabilities – like air-to-air refuelling – must be decided now,” AirTanker said in a statement, urging Labour to unveil the long-awaited spending document.
