People forget that reviewers HATED any non-popular JRPGs back in the day. Game reviewers at the time were Xenophobic as hell. Outside of your latest FF and maybe DQ, anything with an anime aesthetic was ridiculed. It was brutal.

tbh there still is a deep-rooted xenophobia mindset when it comes to anime styled jrpgs. Need I remind everyone of the xenoblade 2 and 3 fiasco that occurred because of a certain youtuber

everytime I see some huge outlet talk about jrpgs I want you all remember what those people REALLY thought before persona 5 broke into mainstream its insane how being a fan of this genre would get you bullied untill suddenly everyone decided its actually good
