One final excursion to the lava centre - an interactive museum that mimics the shocks of earthquakes and explores the scale of the volcanic eruptions across Iceland.
Think we’re all in agreement that this might be the best tomato soup in the world. Look at that bread too! Environmentally produced tomatoes using natural pest control and geothermal energy.
The final stop of our jam packed day! Burning off any last bursts of energy at the local bowling alley. What a wonderful day, excited for what day 2 will bring!
Our guide tuned off all the lights and we experienced total darkness; no light pollution at all. in her words “a privilege to experience what darkness is like in a world of so much artificial light.” An inspiring, unnerving and totally magical experience! Day 1 nearly done…
The entrance to the lava tunnel - formed 5,000 years ago as erupting lava flowed towards the sea and the outer layer cooled to form the tunnel. Stay tuned for a group photo taken seconds after we experienced what total darkness feels like in the centre of the cave!
The Blue Lagoon! What a wonderful few hours spent relaxing in the water. Mud masks and deep hair conditioner were exactly what we needed after leaving school at 3am!
A lava-ly stop along the route to the Blue Lagoon to take a look at what has become of the lava of the previous eruption. One or two people may be going home with some of it in their pockets….
