I'll be covering each journalist and outlet individually over the next few days, including Tom Henderson and Insider Gaming. Stay tuned, more posts coming very soon!

Good morning! Today I’m writing an article about the double standard in specialized video game journalism when it comes to Sony/PlayStation and Xbox/Microsoft. These are the outlets I know and have had direct contact with: International:IGN, GameSpot, Digital Foundry, Polygon, Kotaku, Eurogamer, and Geoff Keighley (The Game Awards) Brazilian:Flow Games Spanish:3DJuegos, Vandal, Hobby Consolas In the coming days I’ll go through them case by case with concrete examples. This is not a conspiracy theory. It’s a pattern many people have been pointing out for years, and it deserves to be addressed with facts. Stay tuned — the article will be published today throughout the day.

This game’s art style is unreal — that neon and rust color palette hits different. Only a few hours into REPLACED so far but I’m already invested. Let’s see where the story takes me 👀

Hey Jen, I totally agree. It’s genuinely hard to say anything good about Booty at this point. He feels like a man stuck in the past. If Xbox really wants to turn things around and find success again, they shouldn’t have him managing the internal studios anymore. His leadership has been nothing but arrogance and opacity, and the results speak for themselves.

@XBrassa @JezCorden I feel like I never hear good things about Booty. He’s either really arrogant (from those leaked emails) or opaque.

Hi @JezCorden, I’m a long-time Xbox fan and follower of your coverage. I wanted to share some honest community feedback regarding the current leadership situation. Asha Sharma’s arrival as Xbox CEO created real hope. She spoke about returning to Xbox’s roots, focusing on hardware, core console fans, fixing fundamentals, affordability, and delivering great first-party games. Her early memos and statements acknowledged player frustrations and promised a clearer direction. It felt like a much-needed reset. However, Matt Booty (now EVP and Chief Content Officer) continues to send confusing, ambiguous messages that dilute that momentum. His comments about “nothing is off the table” regarding exclusivity, multiplatform releases, windowing, and other topics create mixed signals right after Asha’s promising start. This leaves fans uncertain about Xbox’s true direction: Are we doubling down on console identity and strong exclusives, or continuing with broader dilution? Booty has valuable experience, but his history with studio closures, cancellations, and past strategies (like aggressive Game Pass pushes) makes his current role in shaping the narrative problematic at this critical transition. The community needs clear, unified messaging — not ambiguity that erodes trust. Asha has the chance to define a new era. Allowing mixed signals from Booty risks weakening her strong opening. Xbox deserves aligned leadership that speaks with one clear, confident voice focused on players and the platform’s identity. I’d love to hear your thoughts on this dynamic. Keep up the great reporting. Best regards,

Thank you so much Andreas, I really appreciate it 🙏 Glad you liked the post and shared it. At this crucial turning point with Asha Sharma leading, we’re only asking for one clear and unique vision for Xbox. Everyone inside the company should be aligned with that same vision and work as a truly united team. Nothing more. We don’t want to keep seeing daily contradictions from people who should already be part of the past. Hopefully this time things will finally be different. Thanks again for the support 💚

Only Asha and Matthew Ball should be the official voices giving interviews and communicating Xbox’s strategy. Matt Booty is creating more confusion than clarity with this so-called “new reboot.” He represents the past — that old management style that has been synonymous with inefficiency, canceled projects, broken promises, and erratic direction at Xbox Game Studios for years. It’s time to leave that era behind. Seeing Matthew Ball speak clearly about the need for a steady flow of exclusive games and positioning titles like Gears of War: E-Day and Clockwork Revolution as the first real steps is exactly the kind of coherent and hopeful message the community has been waiting for. Booty belongs to the problem era. Ball seems focused on actual solutions. We don’t need more noise or contradictory interviews that end up confusing players. We need consistency, and right now only Asha and Matthew Ball are delivering that. The rest should stay in the background and let the people who actually understand where Xbox needs to go do the talking.#XBOX💚

Just let this one @ballmatthew talk. That’s it. This is the ANTI Booty . This is the biggest XBOX weapon. Common motherfucking sense.

Do exclusives really matter? "To return our platform to consistent growth, we need a reliable pipeline of exclusive games," says Matthew Ball. "Gears of War: E-Day and Clockwork Revolution are just the first." "There is scant evidence of any platform ever being built, let alone sustained, without having exclusive content," Ball continues. "It doesn't matter whether we're talking about cable networks, streaming video channels, broadcast, terrestrial radio, a Hollywood studio, a music label – you need it." "We should narrow in on the literal role of these titles. We are asking players to make an investment in our consoles. These investments are real; they involve trade-offs in life. Given this, we need to give players a clear reason to pick us. And even after they chose us, we still have an obligation to earn that purchase," says Ball. Gears of War: E-Day creative director Matt Searcy tells me that The Coalition is 'stoked' to lead the line. "We couldn't be more excited to be an Xbox exclusive. Gears and Xbox have been tied so tightly together for 20 years now, so it's an honor and a privilege to be seen as a flagship title in this way." Staff at inXile Entertainment that I have spoken with are divided. There is some trepidation after Xbox's devastating layoffs. "I hope this doesn't put a target on our back," said one senior employee, granted anonymity to speak candidly. A studio lead from elsewhere in the portfolio had this to say: "We know that console exclusives aren't a silver bullet; nobody is saying that. But what we were doing before wasn't working, so clearly something had to change. If this is a way for us to rebuild trust with the Xbox community, and give players a reason to return home, then it has to be worth a shot." via: GamesRadar+ gamesradar.com/games/xbox-ret…

@XBOX

Matt Booty should no longer represent Xbox. He represents the past and the old ‘case by case’ approach that caused so much confusion. His messages are not consistent with Asha Sharma’s clear vision of returning to the essentials: strong hardware and exclusives that give real reasons to choose Xbox. Instead of helping, he’s confusing the community. It’s time for a unified and consistent message.

Let me simplify this to its simplest form. Everyone that’s a XBOX fan or someone who potentially can come to XBOX wants XBOX to either be all in about XBOX and SP exclusives vs sometimes in sometimes out wishy washy Booty talk. People like security and concrete know what you are getting message. How MATT doesn’t know this at this point goes to show you that he suffers from that eerie disconnect that was prevalent under Phil’s leadership.
