The second time in 10 years that US derailed a Chinese purchase of Lumileds
US private equity Apollo Global Management took it over 2016, leaving it laden with debt

We didn’t get the list until more than one hour after the conference started
It must have been a very traumatizing experience for TV journalists who had to say on air who is there and who isn’t
Finbarr Bermingham@fbermingham
So China is represented at ministerial level by teleconference at Macron's Hormuz summit - as with Japan and a fair few Gulf and SE Asian states. Kallas was on the call but she must have been added so late, her name isn't on the list. VDL was there

The US, Israel and Iran not invited to today's "non-belligerents" summit in Parls.
China was, by both the UK and France.

This after slamming the Chinese built Budapest-Belgrade line.
I wondered, then, who would build it...

Magyar is on state TV rn promising a Budapest-Warsaw high speed rail line
English

@HendrKim No one expects him to continue Orban’s one-sided approach, even Beijing has realistic expectations about him
And his remarks are definitely on the warmer side and perfectly acceptable
China’s embassy in Hungary today said it “appreciates” Magyar’s “positive comments on China”
English

@XIAOFEIXU The article is a bit contradictory though. Magyar sent a “warm overture” to Beijing. Yet he also implied that Chinese companies have unfair advantages (do they?) and that the Chinese-sponsored Budapest–Belgrade railroad was not in Hungary’s interest (why wouldn’t it be?).

China’s Embassy in Hungary says it “appreciates” Magyar’s warm ouverture to Beijing
Magyar made his first public comments on China following his landslide victory in his response to my question yesterday

The tone was very measured and pragmatic, even warm
I was also surprised by his comments on Marine Le Pen and Meloni, as he objected the far-right framing
Read all about what else he has to say and the economy challenges facing the new government here!

@Luftstalag14 @fbermingham Samsung and SK both have factories here in Hungary!
Samsung’s battery factory near Budapest was caught in scandal after scandal, which kinda soured Hungarian public opinion on East Asian firms

@XIAOFEIXU @fbermingham South Korea? Did Orban really? Why?
