My personal thought when I was writing this story — where are the European bidders?

We didn’t get the list until more than one hour after the conference started It must have been a very traumatizing experience for TV journalists who had to say on air who is there and who isn’t
Finbarr Bermingham@fbermingham

So China is represented at ministerial level by teleconference at Macron's Hormuz summit - as with Japan and a fair few Gulf and SE Asian states. Kallas was on the call but she must have been added so late, her name isn't on the list. VDL was there

@HendrKim No one expects him to continue Orban’s one-sided approach, even Beijing has realistic expectations about him And his remarks are definitely on the warmer side and perfectly acceptable China’s embassy in Hungary today said it “appreciates” Magyar’s “positive comments on China”

@XIAOFEIXU The article is a bit contradictory though. Magyar sent a “warm overture” to Beijing. Yet he also implied that Chinese companies have unfair advantages (do they?) and that the Chinese-sponsored Budapest–Belgrade railroad was not in Hungary’s interest (why wouldn’t it be?).

Magyar’s presser still ongoing 🇨🇳 poped up He noted Beijing’s congratulation message which said China is open to working with him He vowed to provide level playing field to all foreign firms, instead of Orban’s system which favored China and South Korea

The tone was very measured and pragmatic, even warm I was also surprised by his comments on Marine Le Pen and Meloni, as he objected the far-right framing Read all about what else he has to say and the economy challenges facing the new government here! scmp.com/economy/articl…

Ended on a positive note “I believe it is in China’s interest as well as ours to cooperate very well, so that both countries and both countries’ companies benefit mutually. That is what we will work towards,” Magyar said. He also reiterated his willingness to travel to Beijing

@Luftstalag14 @fbermingham Samsung and SK both have factories here in Hungary! Samsung’s battery factory near Budapest was caught in scandal after scandal, which kinda soured Hungarian public opinion on East Asian firms

The supporters I spoke to have no illusions about what comes next A Tisza victory won’t transform Hungary overnight — Orbán’s machine will not yield without a fight But those fears belong to tomorrow. Tonight is theirs

A sea of joy here at Tisza’s HQ as Orbán conceded the election. People were shouting, jumping, hugging, a real sense of change and excitement Tisza is currently projected to secure a two-thirds majority, which will give it bigger power to dismantle the apparatus Orbán built

Hungarian opposition leader Peter Magyar hailed the record turnout, highest since the fall of communism and said he is “carefully optimistic” about the possibility of ending Viktor Orban’s 16-year reign But he urged patience as vote counts is still underway, polls closed at 19h
