@grifin_station @InstantReplay17 I'm not denying the SSJ3 sketches, but you're reading too much into it. The design was likely just to make Goku's Boo reveal look badass and threatening, with a light ape callback. The dots connect, but Toriyama always kept it casual. He even mixed up SSJ2 and SSJ3 later lol.

To say this happened "constantly" is purely disingenuous; it was a very rare occurrence throughout DB's 11-year serialization. Using this to label him "lazy" severely minimizes the massive undertaking that is creating manga. Furthermore, this does nothing to disprove my original tweet regarding Toriyama's intentions behind the SSJ3 design.

@InstantReplay17 @grifin_station Yes and no. Toriyama constantly reused, photocopied or slightly modified his own panels throughout the original manga's run. He did that to meet deadlines after procrastinating for most of the week. But he was also VERY diligent and when he had to meet deadlines, he gave his all.

@XMathemagicianX @grifin_station they had to work on stick deadlines you seriously think it was just laziness? please try writing and drawing serialized manga for almost two decades straight i wonder then when you try to make things easier for yourself you'll call it lazy

@JordanLDurham @grifin_station @mokhanotsorry These aren't even accusations from outsiders. They're things Toriyama admitted himself, often with self-deprecating humor. Many mangaka noted this pattern too. Yet the end result was still a groundbreaking, fun comic book that ran for years under brutal weekly deadlines.

@JordanLDurham @grifin_station @mokhanotsorry If you read what I wrote, you'd see I used the word "lazy" (backed by Toriyama's own words) to highlight the procrastinating + efficiency side. Your comment is mostly just a semantic disagreement over the word "lazy."

@JordanLDurham @grifin_station @mokhanotsorry You're just repeating what I said; Toriyama procrastinated for most of the week (watching TV, building models), then crammed an entire chapter into the final day or two, sometimes with all-nighters. He also used deliberate shortcuts: reusing panels, not inking Goku's hair, etc.

@JordanLDurham @grifin_station @mokhanotsorry It's not accusing when the artist himself admits it. Point is that Toriyama was a procrastinating efficient genius who turned limitations into creative strengths and the charm of DB comes from that very approach (f.x. Namek has 3 suns because he didn't want to draw night scenes).

@grifin_station @mokhanotsorry Literally he admits to just winging it every time he is asked about his creative process. Toriyama is a man who can somehow make gold and come up with creative ways to make work easier without a care, that's a part of Dragon Ball's charm.

@grifin_station @mokhanotsorry Just cause the process is difficult doesn't mean Toriyama isn't lazy. He procrastinated until deadline and admits to using simple design techniques (even reusing panels) to make work easier (i.e. Namek having 3 suns so the sky will never be dark). That's pretty much his MO, lol.

@Metallix_MT @grifin_station Toriyama definitely is. He even stated that he would use old plot points and bring them back as if he foreshadowed it just to make him seem smart. Even when the interviewer was like, "ahh, but you DO have some nice foreshadowing" Toriyama just says, "no I don't I made it up lol"

@XMathemagicianX @grifin_station It’s called humility. For starters, no one in the Jump grind is lazy by default. Furthermore Toriyama was one of the most active mangaka in the business. In addition to Dragon Ball he was doing oneshots, promos, design and art for various video games. Not lazy by any standard.
